shyts actually crazy. I think every citizen should become a juror at least one and you'll see what I'm talking about. You all get selected by your questions/race/background and then you listen to the trial and then deliberate. The case I was on was for this old dude that was accuse of raping his grandaughters(One was 16 other was 2-3). He was very rich as he owned a 18-wheeler 24/7 repair shop. If a rig was broken down anywhere at anytime, they would come fix. This nikka had at least 5 properties and tons of sports cars. First witness was an uncle who watched the little one. Apparently, the little one kept saying weird shyt when she was being changed or bathed (pop pop rubs me here etc).
Next was the case worker who did her intake when the family had suspicion. They showed us the whole interview(video) and even the little girl identified the grandfather as the person who was doing the molesting. Older granddaughter came up and talked about what she went through. I've never been molested, but the way she was talking and moving reminded me of when my wife told me what happened to her. This nikka was guilty as fukk no question about it. Of course the state and the defense go back and forth, closing statements and then we're sent to deliberate(didn't leave stayed in the court room).
Over the course of the trial, and during periods breaks and lunch, we all spent time talking with each other. At that time I was a Jr in college and working so I had a lot to talk about. The other people were quite diverse, but I noticed during selection the defense picked a lot of older white men(at least 6). We were actually having a good time chatting about our lives etc. We weren't allowed to talk about the case until the closing statements were done.
Before we could deliberate, we had to select a jury foreman, which surprisingly everyone selected me(youngest person judge has seen). I am given the pamphlet with the counts and I decided to have everyone go around and give out their opinion of the case. The surprise I had when all the older white men didnt believe he did because he was a veteran, they didn't find porn in his house(they didn't search for any) etc. That is when I finally got why jury selection can convict an innocent men or set a evil man free. They even went on about the older grandaughter wearing ripped jeans and, from one of the jurors "give the grandfather wrong signals".
We deliberated for eight hours going back and forth. Some of the other jurors just wanted to do not guilty just to go home. Another one said fukk this and went into a corner to sleep. Myself and a few others refused to do not guilty so we had a hung jury. Seeing that older grandaughters face was so devastating. They both should've got justice, but these old ass white man were so hung up on him being a vet and the grandaughters apparel.
After the trial, weeks go by and I get a call from the defense. They mentioned how cool it was that I was the foreman and wanted to get my opinion of the case(to prepare for the retrial). I told them in the most respectful way possible to GTFO my phone. Funny thing about it? The defense was the same lawyers who defended Daniel Holtzclaw.
Everyone should become a juror at least once in their lives. You will fully understand if someone gets guilty on ALL 34 counts they guilty as fukk!
