interested to see if DeGrom’s contract has any deferred money like his last one with the Mets did.
Mets are paying him for a few years next decade, and he comes off the books the same year as Bonilla in 2039 (I think).
If this is true, there's nothing we could've done. He was leaving.

We've been discussing Verlander as a backup plan to deGrom for a few weeks now. I dont think its a panic move at all.
It's not really a panic move. They won't mind a big short term bag. They were already going to do that with deGrom and there's no QO attached. This is more ideal than Rodon imo. I'd expect 2 years.

Generally speaking, Atlanta was an option because that's close to home, but $37 mil a year tax free
There was a bunch of smoke about him wanting to go south and get away from the east coast media frenzy. The 4th/5th years will probably age like milk on the field but be worth it overall for Texas just for the way Leiter and some of their other young arms will get to pick his brain.
I don't understand what their plan is. They just finished 68-94 and now they're paying three guys almost $100 million. Their lineup is ass and they still need a couple more starters.

DeGrom is only once every five days. Nobody else on their team is box office and people don't show up for losing teams in baseball.
