While I do think trump is a reason they lost, he definitely isn't the only reason. Republicans in general have been fighting to take away the average Americans civil rights, nothing to do wirh trump
They would have won if they elected more moderates candidates, especially in places like Pennsylvania, Nevada, and Arizona.

This brand of politics was unsustainable. It can work in a gerrymandered district yes but at some point you gotta give the impression that you're actually up there to do a job and represent the people of your state and not just want to be a celebrity all day.

Running for governor or senator of an entire state is entirely different than running in a small community of 30,000 people where you can say and do whatever you want.

The crazy thing is that WV was solidly Dem in many ways until relatively recently.

For years, Jay Rockefeller and Robert Byrd were easily winning reelection to the senate. Byrd died in 2010 when Manchin was Governor (imagine that: two dem senators AND a dem governor in WV). Manchin filled the seat with a temporary replacement and then ran to get elected to the seat. Rockefeller retired in 2014.

WV was also reliably democrat in presidential elections until 2000, and it was competitive until 2012 (when Romney trounced Obama 62-35). WV was carried by Jimmy Carter in 1980 and by Michael Dukakis in 1988. "Liberal," wimpy, Mike Dukakis of Massachusetts!

You forgot that Georgia and Louisiana were competitive blue states, too, back then!

This is what I’m telling these DeSantis stands. Republicans always do this.

Even Chuck Todd played clips of how Mike Lee and others said they couldn’t support Trump in 2016 because of his crudeness and we know how it turned out.

Let them actually show they have changed instead of trying to force the narrative with leading candidates like Youngkin and DeSantis.

And what these morons can't seem to comprehend is nobody cares who's the governor or senator of Mississippi or Alabama.

They care about the states that actually have economic power and have people who move and live in it and have diverse backgrounds of people who can actually move the country economically nobody gives a rat's ass about Alabama or Mississippi. You can be a racist moron in those places and win comfortably.

Representing Phoenix or Denver or Vegas or Philly on a national stage that shyt ain't gotta fly.

They did not vote Democratic in presidential elections as consistently as WV, and they became Republican dominated states earlier than WV. (With respect to Georgia, I am of course referring to the time before the recent Democratic resurgence it's experienced.)

I shared this same thing before about West Virginia. West Virginia has a history of being a very progressive state---they were created because they didn't want to be a slave state---and was a pro-working class state for most of the 20th century---and it was working class because they actually fought and died for it. It still is, but the fall of the coal industry and the lack of support by any politician has lead to where it is now where they vote Republican because of social reasons. Manchin is a Clinton/Atari Democrat, but he doesn't care about workers issues.

The Intercept had a podcast episode on this topic last year:

Really seems like a shift is happening. With the senate races I assume McConnell made a call - no election denying bullshyt, no drawn out nonsense if it's clear you lost, etc. Mastriano has no McConnell connection as a candidate for governor yet is refusing to claim fraud either.

Really looks like the only person who will loudly claim fraud will be Kari Lake, if she loses in AZ. Kinda seems obvious she is auditioning to be Trump's VP, at a time when much of the party seems to be moving away from him.

Supposed to be another Arizona vote dump at 8pm eastern of 90,000 votes. 89% reporting right now, should take that up to around 93%. They’ve been saying these votes are supposed to lean red, so if that’s the case, should show in this dump. Hobbs up 36,000 right now
Dumped just happened, now 93% reported just like I thought. Kari closed the gap. Hobbs was up 36,000, now down to 26,000:

Hobbs - 1,211,595 votes
Lake -1,185,584 votes
