Ironically just saw this pop up:
That's a positive day but is going to do little to turn around the last 50 years of neglect. You have to read into the Farm Bill and numerous other farming laws that blatantly favor corporate farmers over small farmers, along with horrific treatment of small farmers (especially Black small farmers) by the Department of Agriculture to the effect of billions of dollars of lawsuits they eventually lost, along with a real neglect of rural community infrastructure and viability (that was partially downstream of the neglect of farmers) which has led to the collapse of many of those communities, which many urban Democrats justified by claiming that rural communities were unsustainable anyway and corporate farmers SHOULD produce our food.
The incredible loss of family-owned farmland and Black-owned land especially over the last 100 years was not natural, it was entirely manmade. The fact that Republicans contributed to that is to be expected, because Republicans are supposed to be the corporate party and the anti-environment party, But the Democrats were just as culpable as the Republicans in everything that went down over that time, and they didn't have red meat cultural issues to throw those people a bone when their communities fell apart.
