For the most part, those looks they were getting from behind the arc in the first half were open opportunities - they just weren't falling. If they had abandoned that shot like this board wanted them to do, the score would've been a lot closer than it ended up being. Australia were exhausted even before halftime for the simple fact they were exerting all that energy trying to defend that shot. This is why it's not always about if they're missing 3s, because in that process, they're still forcing the defense to cover more ground to defend those shots, which ultimately, was Australia's undoing in the end. Replacing those with midrange/long-twos isn't going to have the same effect.

And as we saw, once those threes started falling for them, it was over in the blink of an eye.
