My humble take from the SOTU, we saw Trump the showman, but what grinded my gears was how the Big Joker clearly highlighted a potential poach: black votes.

He (and/or) his staff clearly feel there isn't a Dem. Candidate who can maximize the enthusiasm or respect of the overall black vote. So big up Tim Scott, bring up the now-clean ex-Army contractor, the former Tuskegee airman (and make him a brigadier general to boot while next to his grandson), "give" a scholarship to the sdaughter of the single mother from Philly... Etc.

All this tangible talk and it's application to Nov, team 45 tipped their hat. They as of now think Bernie or Biden, and they addressed both tonight, in terms of a poach.

Need more time to process, but I don't feel any of these dem candidates understand the challenge they face with this cat, envelopes of cash aside.

Dems are playing checkers. :hhh:
And its the right play both the front runners "biden and Bernie " are scared to even say the word black let alone Cater to black voters "specifically". If trump can turn some voters away from biden/bernie it's a wrap

It all comes down to whether Democrats can motivate voters to come out. It doesn't really matter who's on the ballot beyond that. All of the top candidates have probably they are about to motivate a coalition to follow behind them except maybe Biden (and I day that because I'm not sure if his high polling had to do with him being a front runner or because he motivated people)
I've said this many times already...

The hardcore partisans are not enough for the Dems to beat Trump...

They weren't enough for Shillary in 2016 and they won't be enough for whoever the 2020 candidate is either...

You have no chance at winning Wisconsin, Michigan and PA without that moderate vote...Warren inspires them as much as Shillary did, nobody voting for a gay man and Klobuchar is as inspiring as a tree...

These voters will stay home again, just like they did in 2016...They don't like Trump, but they don't hate him as much as yall do either...

Man, can you imagine how these Progressives who claim Black women are the only true backer of Democrats (as if BM aren't 90%+ Democrat) are going to totally lose their shyt if even 7-10% of BM went to Trump?

There is a glaring problem with Trump's strategy though. His party is working fervently to block or suppress Black voters around the country but especially down south. Unless he thinks some middle class Blacks will be enough to carry him they are speaking out of both sides of their mouths here. If GOP started voter drives in rural or urban Black America, that would be all in.

Probably, but truth be told any Dem would've won Michigan in 2018 after that bullshyt in Flint. :yeshrug:

I guess it makes sense on paper but she's really not the most captivating speaker. The Lieutenant Governor seems cool though, breh isn't much older than most of us on here (he's late 30s I think).
garlin gilchrist shoulda gave the response :salute:

You're making a point using a year where there was low voter turnout for Dems. Throughout the Trump presidency, voter turnout for Dems has been higher than normal. If voter turnout ends up at about Obama levels, Trump can lose. You guys need to stop acting like dude slaughtered Hillary in 2016...it was a close race

I really don't think Trump can go long enough without saying/doing some racist shyt to get a significantly higher percentage of the black/brown vote. I'm sure in the next 10 months there will be a police shooting, protest, white nationalist rally, or something where he won't be able to help himself.

But I can see him drumming up enough antipathy towards his opponent to convince people to stay home.
