I'm gonna be blunt: this is some Trump voter shyt right here and how the electorate at large votes/reacts. Didn't give a shyt until something directly affected you or people nearby. Beforehand your thoughts were "out of sight, out of mind," just like Trump voters who didn't care about his bullshyt when it hurt other people and complained when it finally reached them.

There's zero compassion in this country for others and the votes reflect that. If people cared, Bernie or Warren would get 90% of the vote.
I agree with your overall sentiments, but in @Pressure's case, his interactions with others seem to be what prompted his change. His post mostly focuses on other people's hardships rather than his own. To me, it reads like he brought up his son to provide context for why he was having those interactions.

You're right though, it's a common theme among Republicans. I remember a few years ago Rob Portman's son came out as gay so Portman changed his position on gay marriage people were praising him. It's like dude only cares about gay rights because he found out his son was gay. Does his daughter (or son) have to marry a black man in order for him to care about police brutality and other issues facing black America?

Edit: It looks like he clarified that was the case.:ehh:

I'm not going to feel bad for my life experiences leading to me to evolve as a person. If you think that's problematic we just have to agree to disagree. :yeshrug:

David Axlerod and his Republican consultant friend made a good point, Bernie and Warren will have to start separating themselves soon if they want to move to the next level.

I can't see Bernie winning that fight at this point.
they are already top 3, there isnt much of a next level to move too. they literally dont have to change up anything until they are the only two left

or, which is more likely the media forces them to bash each other in the debates. if the cnn debate was any precursor, they will be given leading, trolling questions in the upcoming debates in an attempt to bash one another under the guise of differentiating themselves

Humans are inherently programmed for self preservation (inclusive of the ones closest to us) so why act like “not caring until it happens to me” isn’t the baseline by which most people operate?

I'm pointing out this is why our country is never moving forward like it should. We would be better off in terms of social programs and taxes having 50 separate countries instead of one united union.

It wouldn’t change, this isn’t a US thing or a state by state thing...it’s a human thing. People generally don’t care about issues that don’t affect them. Yeah we all have various things that tug at our hearts more and we think beyond ourselves for, but overall, people vote for legislation that directly benefits them, their situation and backs their beliefs.

Of course it's a state thing. Washington or Oregon would be much more likely to pass UHC on their own than say Kentucky or Mississippi. There are major regional differences in this country.
