I think you're missing the point. People aren't looking to primary incumbents regardless of where they fall on the Dem spectrum.

The Kennedy brand died in 2010, but the reality is they amassed most of their power in the 60s and held on to their seats as incumbents.

Their stories aren't much different than Markey in that regard.

If the seat were vacant, Kennedy probably would have won. :yeshrug:

The narrative around this race shifting to Markey as proof of the embedded power of incumbents would be a fun bit of irony for sure though :mjlol:.

Kennedy deserved to lose because he couldn't wait a term or two to run for an open seat. Markey is pushing 80, Elizabeth Warren is in her 70s and this fake Conan O'Brien look alike couldn't sit on his hands for a few more years :comeon:

Whoever is advising him and hyped him up to do this really played him. His dumbass probably would've run for president in 2024 if he became a senator :heh:

This is what I was thinking. He wanted to take the Obama route to the White House.

I'm not sure why people would expect the incumbent to lose to a challenger who isn't offering much different. :yeshrug:

I could see an argument that the establishment push and media narrative about the Kennedy threat to Markey was a lot like what they tried to do with AOC, Omar and Talib...but that leaves the fact that moderates didn’t acknowledge these candidates’ strength until polling and retrospect set in.

That pelosi endorses Kennedy and that he ever felt he could jack the seat on name recognition and little else to positively differentiate himself is definitely a great question and one that progressives have been curious about. I think the squad challengers seemed like obvious grifts (at least Omar’s and AOC’s) but Kennedy’s misstep felt like he had more to lose on a grift and a lot better reasons not to miscalculate his way into a blowout loss.

How shytty of a politician you have to be if you are a Kennedy and lose in MA? That's basically your birthright lol
ive seen him speak in person. hes pretty underwhelming and its obvious hes coasting off the family name.

i still expect him to win the next open primary in mass (on the way to some kind of presidential run)

watch this :russ:

how your entire family politicians and you’re so bad at this?

this is what im talking about.

even on a dumb throwaway question markey sees an obvious opportunity to make himself more relatable to men by talking about bawston sports and how his wife just doesnt understand

kennedy says um like twenty times and brings up his feet which nobody wants to think about :scust:

i think this is a problem with political families in general, once you get to like the third gen the kids have grown up in a bubble

off topic but i just found out joe kennedy was jason collins’ roommate in college :ohhh:
