The (bad and lack of) writing had a real impact on the chances for the actors to shine, though. Season 8 barely had any dialogue in it compared to other seasons.

Aside from episode 1-2, actors did a whole lot of staring with very short conversations. I'm struggling to remember any Alfie Allen dialogue at all.

I personally wouldn't have nominated Harrington(he's a mediocre actor imo) or Hedley(she was given nothing to work with). I have no problem with the rest. Clarke did a great job conveying emotion without saying a word. Plus, we all know what the deal is with huge shows getting nominations in their final year. Most don't deserve them. Popularity has been a factor forever. Voter fatigue is also a very real thing with the Emmy's.

I felt Kit Harrington has come a long way. When I found out during season 1 that he was probably going to end up being the lead character I was skeptical but IMO he turned it around and ended up capturing the role very well. He was very believable whenever he had to convey emotions and I liked all his wartime speeches.

I agree that season 8 of GOT was a drop off but the acting never fell off in my view and I'm still waiting for someone to tell me the series that was snubbed. If GOT is still one of the best shows on TV during a mediocre season by their standards then just admit that TV sucks in 2019 and go about your day.

We had people in the main thread saying GOT is quote "now the worst show on television". Really? So what got left out here? :manny:

Emmy nominations are always a mixed bag. Some positive notes

Nice to see them recognize Jodie Comer this year for Killing Eve, easily one of the best performances on TV

All the love for Fleabag, Sian Clifford getting nominated was a pleasant surprise. The sister relationship was one of the best things on the show.

All the love for Barry, including Sally and Noho Hank getting nominations

Nice to see Betty Gilpin get the nomination for GLOW, but they still aren't giving Allison Brie any love :francis:

No love for Rhea Seehorn either for Better Call Saul - her snapping on Howard was some of the best acting I've seen on TV.

I didn't expect it at all, but J.K. Simmons and Olivia Williams delivered 2 of the best performances on TV easily on Counterpart. A shame more people didn't watch the show.

Nice to see The Good Place score a comedy nod, would have better to see some acting nominations besides Danson though.Janet in particular stands out.

Also no love for Homecoming at all :francis:, series could have been a victim of coming out too early in the voting process.

The only issue I have with the love GoT received is that they got directing and writing nominations. Despite the hyperbole that has become cool to use for the final season, those two areas(especially writing) were the only (very) subpar areas. If Ozark, an admittedly enjoyable show, can get the number of nominations it did, I can't get too up in arms over Thrones. House of Cards got nominations for fukks sake:mjlol:True Detective not getting nominated for either Series category is the biggest head scratcher for me.

This isn't a good look for the state of TV in general, though. Some of these shows wouldn't sniff a nomination 5-10 years ago. Limited series are carrying the load right now.

GOT was the best thing on TV last year even with all the flaws in my humble opinion.

I've been thinking about the bolded since the end of GOT. Is the golden age of TV (2000-Now) that kicked off with OZ over?

Emmys never recognized The Wire, so fukk them.
I must be really out of the loop I haven’t heard of half these shows are nominated.
I see more black actors are getting nominated which is a plus.
I think the golden age of TV is coming to an end, but we had a hell of a run from the late 90s till 2015 :yeshrug:

Amazon got the rights for east of West....if they provide the required budget....and Hickman actually creates a satisfying ending for it . It will be right up there with the GOAT.

Aside from some of the acting nominations, Thrones deserve every technical nomination. The last half of the series was like watching a motion picture.

And it's the biggest show on television's last run, you thought they weren't gonna over do it a little on the nominations? :heh: They probably wrote their names in for everything first and filled out the rest :heh:

This is kind of a disingenuous question as there wasn't much on when "GOT" was airing. They only nominate shows that run in a certain time frame.

Which leads me to my next answer....

To your first point I wasn't paying no mind to the Emmy's when The Wire was around but to keep it about this year.... if you think the acting performances were unremarkable, I asked what was snubbed? Nobody has said "this should have been nominated" or "this actor or actress got fukked over" ....

I can see in the limited series category obviously Chernobyl and True Detective to me both should have gotten more noms but they are not in the same category as Thrones

Again, it's not that anyone got snubbed in favor or "GOT". It's that "GOT" seems to have gotten acting noms because:

1. It's the final season.
2. There wasn't much on during that time frame.

It doesn't mean they deserve those noms, though. :yeshrug:

Like I said, they have a quota to meet and they'll literally shoe horn anything in there to reach it. Which is why you had bizarre shyt like "Homeland" getting noms after it clearly fell off...."Dexter" getting noms after it obviously fell off, etc.

IMO the only person from "GOT" season 8 that deserves a nom is Emilia Clarke for when Dany snapped. That's it. And even then, that's one of the worst scenes (in terms of it actually making sense) in the entire series. :unimpressed:
