Both True Detective and Chernobyl deserved even more nominations in their categories.

They weren't "filling out" exactly. If you look each category got at least 1-2 or more names from the cast. They all acted their ass off. If there were other performances worthy of being in those categories then they would be there. Who got snubbed? I don't see anyone naming actors that should be there instead![]()

The filling out comment has nothing to do with this year specifically. They nominated Michael C. Hall for season 6 of "Dexter".
The fact that "The Wire" was ignored for most of it's run tells you everything you need to know about the Emmys. It has very little to do with what's the best, or most talented. Occasionally there's overlap. And nah, I don't think anyone "acted their asses off" during the final season of "GOT". There was a couple scenes, that's about it. For example Lena Heady is a great actress but she did literally nothing during the final season.

She stared out a window most of the season. The most acting she did was in the last scene when she was freaking out right before the building collapsed. For example Lena Heady is a great actress but she did literally nothing during the final season.

I think Emilia Clarke did wonders with the absolute bullshyt she was tasked with by the writers in this final season. If that's the case why is Sophie Turner up there?
And let's keep it real here....while "GOT" has a lot of talent nobody really stood out in the final season. It was by far the weakest acted season in the entire series.
But the Emmys are notorious for nominating shows well past their prime ("Dexter" and "Homeland" come to mind) just to fill out the category, so it is what it is.
Fred.
Good looking out...I got busy with work and hadn't had a chance to go back to the HR site to check for updates.@Jello Biafra

The only issue I have with the love GoT received is that they got directing and writing nominations. Despite the hyperbole that has become cool to use for the final season, those two areas(especially writing) were the only (very) subpar areas. If Ozark, an admittedly enjoyable show, can get the number of nominations it did, I can't get too up in arms over Thrones. House of Cards got nominations for fukks sakeTrue Detective not getting nominated for either Series category is the biggest head scratcher for me.
This isn't a good look for the state of TV in general, though. Some of these shows wouldn't sniff a nomination 5-10 years ago. Limited series are carrying the load right now.
The lack of love for The Good Fight is fukked up.
The show deserved best Drama and writing/directing nominations.
Christine Baranski, Delroy Lindo, Audra McDonald all deserved acting noms and Michael Sheen definitely deserved a Guest Actor on a Drama Series nom.
