I think Driving Miss Daisy is better than Do the Right Thing. DTRT is choppy as hell. It's like film student choppy. The transition of scene to scene irks me every time I watch it. And then it's starring Spike Lee. That right there takes it out of the discussion. Jessica Tandy & Morgan killed it in Driving Miss Daisy.
And the same happened here. One is a safe movie that acknowledges race issues but focuses on two opposites working it out, whereas Spike uses the happy Hollywood ending as a setup for a harsh dose of reality that nothing has changed in the past 50 years and racism is still a very integrated part of society.I don't agree with this at all.. Do The Right Thing is a groundbreaking film that not only ushered in 90's cinema but the indy film scene that broke away from the safe gloomy Hollywood image that films like Driving Miss Daisy pushed. In fact the main reason Do The Right Thing got snubbed by Hollywood/The Academy is that the imagery provoked some type of fear in them....
