It can work. Melo as a 3rd option and PnR player with CP3 or Harden is better than any 3rd option we had last year, outside of hand spooned lobs to Capela.

Before Melo, any switch by the defense meant that CP3 or Harden had to hold the ball and go iso on the switch, but with someone like Melo you can throw him the ball to post or shoot over whichever point guard had to switch onto him during the CP3/Melo PnR. That means less workload for CP3 having to dribble dance, and less tasking on Melo having to iso against bigger or similar sized defenders.

As long as Melo can learn how to switch everything/not get lost on the switches on our own defensive end, Melo can be a positive. Assuming he can still score on mismatches that are skewed in his favor.

IMO, that's the lineup Morey will be banking on to battle GSW with. Whether Melo should start or not is kinda irrelevant (and i bet he will start) bc ultimately the above lineup working will determine whether Melo should remain on the team, much less see any action.

Think of it like this: If he has chemistry with Paul and Harden off the PnR, then our offense is on another level and him starting the first 3-4 minutes before staggering his minutes appeases his ego and gets James Ennis (Ariza's replacement) in the game early anyway.

Whereas if he can't hit shyt even with CP3 hand-feeding him + all the spacing Harden and Tucker provide, then he ain't gonna hit shyt off the bench working with MCW and Gordon. He's not being brought in to ride the pine in crunch time, so that lineup and how it plays will tell us a lot on how this season will go

You think Melo's a better third option than EJ is???

Melo need to shoot at least 35% from 3 this year or he’ll be worthless.

You mean Eric Gordon?

Like I said, assuming Carmelo can score off the mismatches and spoon-fed assists CP3 (and Harden) gets him, he's going to be our best 3rd option scorer. it gives us a dimension we didnt have last year.

Eric is invaluable too but he's also erratic and can't dribble while going 100 miles/hour. He's the ultimate no no no yes hero ball shot maker, but the PnR with Melo may stabilize our offense, esp if/when Harden is off and CP3 has to shoulder the facilitation.

But as I've also said, if Melo cant score off those wide open looks and mismatches, then he's truly washed and useless to us. we'll know early enough into the season

It feels good to have a great GM
James Ennis replaced Aiza and Carmelo replaced Luc.

That's honestly not bad at all. If CP3 can't work magic on Melo, then that's stll
Paul, Harden, Ennis, Tucker, Clint / Eric, Green, MCW, which is comparable to last years team minus still needing a replacement for Luc. I'm at peace with the gamble, esp if Ennis is truly as comparable to Ariza as we've heard
