Gerald Green says Houston Rockets will welcome Carmelo Anthony with open arms

The Houston Rockets aren't going to have a problem with welcoming Carmelo Anthony to the franchise.

According to Gerald Green, who joined the Rockets last season, the Rockets will welcome the 10-time All-Star with open arms, via Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic (via Ashish Mathur of Amico Hoops):

“I’m loving it, I really am,” Green said. “We’re adding a proven player, a future Hall-of-Famer. I don’t really think he’s ever had a point guard like Chris Paul before. I don’t think he’s played with a scorer, not like James Harden before. It’s gonna work. I want him to be Melo.”

“I think the Rockets are going to accept him with open arms just like they accepted me,” Green said. “If they accepted me and I ain’t did nothing, believe me, we’re gonna accept Melo. Houston’s going to embrace him. We know we have that chance to win a championship. We want to run it back.”

Anthony verbally agreed to join the Rockets on Tuesday, not long after the Oklahoma City Thunder traded him to the Atlanta Hawks, only for the Hawks to waive him, via Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports:

"Carmelo Anthony has verbally reached an agreement to sign with the Houston Rockets, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

I like Gerald Green man :russ:

Stop acting like the Rockets didn't have your goatsquad on the ropes needing miraculous performances from Klay, Steph and Durant in Games 6 & 7 with no CP3 in neither of those games.
Almost doesn't count, Brandy told you that.

Last year we were literally looking at 70 wins and a championship if not for hard luck injuries in both the reg season and playoffs.

Lowkey had one of the GOAT-tier teams in league history. And we've kept that same core. We're in an opportunistic position

You guys not worried about the loss of Ariza?

I watched nearly every gamelast year. Ariza was definitely a good piece. But yall act like he was a dead eye sharpshooter and a lockdown defender. The truth is the defensive scheme was more important than his individual defense and his shooting would always trend back to average even with a green light and a buch of open shots. Im not saying he didnt have a good load of work and did ok with it but he was a glue guy and at the end of the season it was easy to see he was more of a body then the xth best player in the team. We will miss him because he was a 6'8 lenghty wing but he wasnt as much as yall act like he was.

Let's hope he finds that spark...
I'm pretty excited for this season to be honest.

With Melo, it comes down to will he hit his wide open shots that he's statistically been proven to make his whole career? If he does, then bare-minimum he's an upgrade to Ryan Anderson who was our starter at the beginning of the season until injuries.

Media loves to talk about all the worst-case scenarios, as if Melo isn't on a 1-yr vet minimum contract, but muthafukkas don't want to address what happens if this shyt does work out. Same way they didn't want to talk about best-case scenarios last year with CP3/Harden

You’re right. Maaaad shyt talking about CP3 and harden sharing a ball but it worked better than I think even morey had planned out.

If it does work out though I hope Morey doesn’t give Melo a 3 piece combo meal to stay though :sadcam:

We can’t pay Cap cp Harden & Melo at the same time. Cp kind of fkd the cap the next 3 years of his deal :francis:

If we don't win the championship in the next 2 years, i see a couple different things happening:

  1. We package a deal around Eric Gordon to acquire a different 3rd/4th wheel impact player or players.
  2. We start paying attention to New Orleans's situation with Anthony Davis (he expires in 2 years), and eventually dangle Clint Capela and Zhou Qi to the Pelicans if AD is in anyway disgruntled by diminishing returns from his team. Of course, Boston will probably try to capitalize on that long before we ever think to.

So realistically, I think Gordon will be our wiggle room to improve (or just change) our roster. The CP3 deal is cumbersome, but if we want to win a championship anytime soon, then that's the sacrifice

Mike D'Antoni Feels Carmelo Anthony Will Be Better Fit With Rockets Than Knicks

Mike D'Antoni believes Carmelo Anthony will be a better fit playing for him with the Houston Rockets than he was with the New York Knicks during his prime.

“Well, at different points of people’s careers or lives or circumstances, things are different," said D'Antoni. "In New York, when they gave away half the team (to Denver in the February 2011 trade that brought Anthony to the Knicks) and everybody expected us to win a championship, it really wasn’t realistic. It put a lot of pressure on everybody, and it kind of burst the pipes. I think this is totally different. We’ve got a team that is a whole bunch of veterans that really, we’ve got one thing in mind, and that’s to win a championship, and we have the possibility. We never had a blow-up before, so it’s not he wanted to play a certain way and I kind of wanted to coach another way.

“Back then, there wasn’t even analytics. I was going by my gut, and he was going by (his) gut, and it’s just, you know, styles clash. And I think now, things have changed and everybody is playing the same way. I think it’s a lot better fit and I think we have a really good chance to be really good.”

D'Antoni envisions Anthony playing a different style.

“The style that we want to play, and we go through that process, it kind of sorts itself out. It’s like USA Basketball. If you’re committed to doing it, and committed to, ‘OK, this is how we’re playing, and then when it’s your turn it’s your turn, but if it isn’t then we’re still within these guidelines.’ Then the more talent you can have, the better the guys are, the better the team is going to be. Look at Golden State, how they had all those guys and you fit in (Kevin) Durant, I mean if you are committed to a certain style, and everybody is committed to the team, it works itself out. ...

“It’s like having Chris and James together (last season). It was relatively noneventful …and I think it’ll be the same thing. ... We’ve just got to make sure we don’t get too far away from taking threes and layups and foul shots. It’ll be a little bit of a learning process. But again, if everybody is committed, then I have no doubt it can work. Whether we can all get it to work? We’ll see.”
