Things haven’t always been this bad for Ferentz. Just four years after taking over for Hayden Fry in 1999, Ferentz had built an Iowa team that, from 2002 through 2004, went 31-7 while collecting two Big Ten titles. Things then cooled off for a bit, but after an 11-2 season in 2009, which ended with an Orange Bowl victory over Georgia Tech, Ferentz was rewarded with a massive ten-year, $35 million contract to keep him in Iowa City for the long term.

Maybe, but I think it's going to be a lot different now. I don't think LSU will be what it was, even though they have a lot of talent. Texas A&M is going to start trying to build a defense. Michigan will start building something. Urban is still at Ohio State. Oregon is continuing their good run. USC is off probation. It's more competitive with the playoffs. Auburn has Muschamp. Georgia will still be a stable of backs, and their defense should be better. Tennessee coming back. It's not going to be what it was. Anybody with an eye can see that.
