You'll see this up coming season though..

Butler is already completely better than Brewer, I was never trippin about losing Brewer..

Defensively? Naw.

Re:

Brewer was the glue of the Bulls' starting line-up/bench-mob defense. His nuances in defense: cleaning up on rotations, bluing of ball-handlers, cleaning up on missed transition defensive-assignments, 1-3 cover-assignments, tying up loose ends etc etc; made him a more versatile defender in comparison to Bogans. '11 season - Brewer led the league for team defensive efficiency (player on floor) and he led the league in biggest differential, team defensive efficiency; player on floor +/- off floor as well.

Defensive players with Brewers' mental/physical tools are certainly not easy to replace - Thibs' system included.

Jimmy doesn't yet have the defensive versatility, experience and intangibles that Brewer possesses.

butler showed signs that he can become that in his rookie season though. and in thibs system he can become that, and he adds an ability to get to the free throw line and has much better offensive skills than brewer, for half the price.

losing brewer will def not hurt as much as losing asik and he was not the glue of the bulls defense deng is.

again if he wold have come back for vet min, then cool, but not for the 4.3 mill.

I'd say Noah, Asik & Taj were the 'glue' of our D. Especially considering they had to pick up for Boozer.

Defensively speaking - he isn't there yet. There are very few players in the league that can contribute to pro-areas on the defensive end like Brewer can (he's a jack of all trades). Glue of the "starting line-up/bench-mob defense" - he was the transitioning body between the frontcourt and backcourt; he cleaned up ALL around the court.
