A lot of people view the 'american dream' of success as attainable through working hard. Hard work to me means lifting those boxes faster, overstudying for a test, etc. Hard work gets you no where. Results are what get you things. Work better, not harder. Make a study guide for that test instead of reading a textbook over and over.
A false consciousness is thinking the way of one group without being in the group. Thats why many working class white people support the gop for instance. They think if they keep working hard they will be rich, when in reality they will need to work better, which means taking a risk or bringing something new to the economy.
