No, the Wu did not produce classic material to match their 1993-1997 run, but I think what they did from 1998-2001 is very underrated.

I listen to the second wave of solo albums A LOT (Bobby Digital, Tical 2000, Immobilarity, Beneath the Surface and Uncontrolled Substance were very underappreciated IMO).

I also think The W and Iron Flag are great albums. They are not on the same level as Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) and Wu-Tang Forever, but I love all of the songs on The W and Iron Flag.

Just because they did not match what they did their first few years, that doesn't mean we should not appreciate the huge amount of quality material they put out in their second phase.

It's really a shame that a lot of this material has been forgotten and gets little love.

Capadonna's album the Pillage was excellent.
And probably my favorite Wu release ever Supreme Clientele came out in that period. They weren't getting radio play but they were still killing shyt.

I think Supreme Clientele is the only album from that era that was appreciated properly. But the other albums have so many random songs that have been totally forgotten but are really incredible.

The W is a personal classic. The affiliates dropped a lot of heat during that timeframe too. The Pillage, Killarmy, Sunz of Man, Wu-Syndicate.

I always said they should have done some small group albums in that era. Like Rae-Ghost-Meth and RZA-GZA-ODB projects

Immobilarity was trash, but the albums were good to great, we got the stellar Swarm, Supreme Clientele...Bobby Digital..

And then the Killabees held down that entire run

The W did not get enough love because of "Gravel Pit" (which I liked personally), among other reasons.

It was a really solid album all the way through though. My main complaints were:

1. There were not enough pass-the-mic style "posse" cuts with 4 or more members dropping verses. Too many of the songs had only 2-3 verses.

2. There were not enough loud, uptempo, in-your-face tracks. It is hard to put my finger on it exactly, but it didn't quite have the same energetic feel that other Wu albums had. In this respect, I think Iron Flag was better.

But even with its shortcomings, I loved it and listened to it a lot.

Wu released like 40 albums between forever and ironflag vs the 7+ gravediggaz of first run in same time.

It was bound to not be as strong.

I still thought wu albums of the day were stull better than most rap albums. Guys would come and go but a wu album was always in the top 5-10.

Forever

Killarmy
Gravediggaz 2
Cap
La the darkman
Killah pruest
The swarm
Sunz of man
Bobby digi
Tical 2
Wu chroniclws
Deck
Killarmy 2
Ugid
Rae 2
Gza 2
Odb 2
Wu syndicate
Shyheim

All good albums at very least. Some great.

IMO Immobilarity had like 2-3 trash cuts, but the rest of the album was really good. But without RZA and Ghost, it was never going to be appreciated.
