1997 was one of the G.O.A.T. years to be a Wrestling fan

Funk and Sabu had a match so barbaric that it made Heyman cringe
Something tells me that had Heyman wasn't :whoa::damn: after that match then Raven and Tommy Dreamer would have tried to top that match making it even more brutal

Sting and Undertaker are my two all time faves. Both won the world title at their respective companies biggest event that year. There was so much going on in both companies. Yep 1997 was dope! I didn't have access to ECW unfortunately then but even I knew about Taz v Sabu because of the magazines.

The late 80's was the GOAT but 1997 was the best year for Wrestling in the 90's and since then no doubt.

1992 was really good too. Bret broke out as a main eventer in WWF, the Flair/Macho feud, etc.

Over in WCW you had Sting, Dustin, Steamboat etc. feuding with the Dangerous Alliance which was the GOAT stable in terms of workrate (Austin, Arn Anderson, Eaton, Rude, Larry Z) and Paul Heyman as the mouthpiece.

Look at them :damn: :damn: :damn: :mjcry:

i was 12 in 1997 and i hadn't seriously watched wrestling in about 4 years. royal rumble 94 was the last ppv i remember watching.

i guess i just lost interest. i was getting older, i began watching "real" sports, hogan was gone... (i heard he became a bad guy in wcw i just didn't give a big enough shyt to tune in)... i just couldn't be bothered. i guess i outgrew it.

and then one saturday morning in late 97 i stumbled upon an episode of wwf livewire (or whatever the name of that recap show was).

:ohhh:everything looked different.

the ropes were all red now. :ohhh:

bret hart and shawn michaels were top guys :ohhh:

there's cursing and foul play :ohhh:

yo this stone cold dude is legit:ohhh:

i couldn't believe it. before you know it i was watching raw next monday night. i was back. like an old friend returning to a familiar place.

commercial time. hey you know what since i'm here let me see what's goin on over in wcw. :ehh:

:merchant: what is this??

:merchant:"is that hogan???"
:merchant:"these nwo guys, they're like a gang??"
:merchant:"all the best wwf guys are in wcw now?"
:merchant:"holy shyt is that sting??"
:merchant:"cruiserweight division?"
