Foley getting his Jimmy Snunka moment. That was a great thing to see, Dude went from sleeping in cars to realizing his dream. Folks shyt on Foley for some odd reason but dude is a key element to why Wrestling popped off in the late 90s
Owen should had a run with the WWF Championship
97 is my favorite year ever
AUSTIN vs PILLMAN fued
Hart foundation heel turn
nation of domination on the rise
nWo buildup and the weekly cliffhanger
theres a lot of stuff people forget - KANE
ECW bubbling up and having their first ppvs...BARELY LEGAL and HEAT WAVE 97
the new stars in 97...RVD...TAZ...SABU...AUSTIN...OWEN...SYXX [idgaf syxx became a star in 97]...EDDIE...REY...NASH becoming a star....CHRIS JERICHO doing his thing
Pillman was on NOCLIP that year
IMO that whole year and movement started with 3 things:
- pillman and austin getting fired from wcw in 96, going to ecw, and landing in wwf THEY kicked off that reality tough guy movement to me not the nWo...now, austin especially connected with hall; theres no coincidence they fired that up at the same time.
- hall and nash using their real names [can't understate what the outsiders did]
- SUMMERSLAM 97: I can't state how important this was.
- at this point steve austin is insanely over. LOOK up the RIDICULOUS POP he gets in JERSEY. i honestly think its one of the most ridiculous pops ever because the crowd. Find a bigger pop:
The DDP / savage fued was incredible too btw. so raw
over 97 austin? hbk? taker? 98 rock and HHH? hell if pillman hadn't died he would've been consistantly more over than owen, and i REALLY LIKED OWEN....i guess he could've been on the foley level but he got as big as he might've imoOwen should had a run with the WWF Championship
that match did ecw more harm than good, even if they didn't realize it at the time. All the stuff with the flaming tables and whatnot, the garbage cans full of weapons and new jack jumping from the rafters...bam bam tossing spike into the crowd.... thats one thing.....THAT MATCH THOUGH...TOO FAR....it wasn't even enjoyable.
Funk and Sabu had a match so barbaric that it made Heyman cringe
Most of the piff already mentioned but The Hart Foundation vs Austin/LOD/Goldust/Ken Shamrock at Canadian Stampede was one of my favourite moments of the year.
The Calgary crowd on fire for each entrance. Bret and Austin kicking it off. The pops when Bret is pumelling Austin in the corner. Austin in GOAT heel form, playing off the crowd. Stu and Helen
The dusty finish with the Hart family followed by Austin coming back with the chair and getting arrested. Lol. The celebration at the end
