This. The jump from 96 to 97 is damn near 2 different genres of music.

Ya lost me there. DMX/Jay-Z/Eminem/Cash Money was running shyt in 99-00..then Luda,Ja and Nelly the next year..The Roc and G-Unit had most of 02-04 with Lil Jon making noise too. That southern takeover shift didn't happen until late 05-06 when Jeezy/Wayne/TI were at their peaks of popularity and the ringtone rap movement took off.

yea but when the south got taste of success it was the beginning of the end
the west and east allowed it to happen though

Don't see anything wrong in comparing years; if anything, it helps put things in perspective. I think it is possible to put a year over another, but I see what you're saying.
