No it isn't. It is opposed by white people when it is perceived as helping POC. It is increasingly less likely to be opposed by younger white people. The leftward shift is largely attributed to us, but younger white people are more progressive than their parents on most issues and that helps in building a winning coalition. Baby boomers are awful people as a whole, but that's another topic. One of the most disconcerting things to me about this political debate is the extent to which people pretend that the internet is real life. Like your thread getting one-starred that talked about the decreased black turnout. I saw smart people like @acri1 interpret that as blaming black people. If you actually think that white people are not a major part of your coalition, why would you focus on what they did and not on how your own base that would guarantee you a win if it showed up did not? By that logic, it is never the fault of your ideological peers for not voting even though that inactivity can be the difference between what we have now and what could be. We should focus all of our attention on people who aren't going to vote for our issues. Baby boomers are largely a lost cause and they are predominantly white, but that 12% of white people who voted Obama and then Trump is worth talking about and those young people and black people who stayed home are worth talking about. Why wouldn't you talk about what ills your own team?I think you read my post wrong.
Everything you just typed in the bolded is opposed by white people. The things that push black voters away brings white voters in and vice versa.
So how do you propose we engage minority voters in rural areas consistently?
Back to the point about the internet. As a general rule, most people think politicians are full of shyt. Every once in a while a new guy comes along that people believe is sincere, but the default state is apathy. The beef in the Democratic Party right now is one of a complacent ruling class versus an activist younger faction that actually means what it says and does not just say it just for show. It isn't an ideological fight among the masses. The "Sanders" faction won that fight. It is a matter of implementation and donors vs. actual democratic voters. The people who stayed home were never going to vote in the first place, they don't see the cost-benefit. And that same thing is why Dems are doing well right now. Trump county voters are disillusioned.
