They still holding people back in other states? :dwillhuh:

Did this kid not go to summer school? Nobody should be getting held back twice by 2nd grade that's ridiculous.

In NY it’s almost impossible to get left behind nowadays it’s only in high school where credits have to be earned and regents have to be passed where that matters and even then if you have a disability they make exceptions and have credit recovery programs/courses.

Meh. I’m tired of hearing that shyt.

There are cultural issues within the community and the longer we deflect the longer the problem persists.

Until we denounce, fukk it, DESPISE hood culture it don’t matter how much education or opportunities you have…. if your buddy ain’t shyt but you feel beholden to ‘keep it real’ you just as liable to get caught up. See the Alabama player, see Cowboys player kelvin Joseph, see Ja Morant’s goofy ass :martin:

Hell I could even talk about Coach Prime cozying up to rappers who push poison and gang culture. Or regular culdesac living 9-5 folk talkin bout opps and gang gang and not snitching :snoop:

It’s deeply systemic—-internally—-and we need to stop putting it off on others

This needs to be examined a little more because I remember coach prime tried to instill discipline into his players and it was ridiculed.. The real problem is their is a culture of "accept me as I am no matter what" that's running rampant in the country. And a attempt to elevate to another level of thinking is shot down.

Unless he has a developmental issue, he must have not had books, or educational television at home. My parents gave us those card board books when we were young, and we had all the Sesame St. videos. Hell, one of the games we played was “school.”

There is a major problem if you can’t pass Kindergarten and 1st grade. And what parent isn’t checking their kid’s backpack after school for assignments, and announcements?

Man listen!!!!!!!! :pachaha: I can't even begin on how the parents these days dump everything onto the teachers and others. Then blame "working too hard" as an excuse to not being parents on Monday, then on Friday claim "there are no jobs". All while their seeds are floating in the wind.

You could argue that hood culture or self destructive short term thinking behavior developed in response to cacs destroying the possibility of economic success for most Black people.

So of course they turn to criminal activities.

Given that Black people can't be responsible for their communities because they don't even control them.

And they don't "control" Atlanta, New Orleans, Baltimore, etc..Cacs do at the state and federal level. And economically.

So black people blaming themselves for their problems in an environment that they never controlled and will never be allowed to control is like the boat blaming itself for the waves of the ocean.

Then they have MORE kids. If you can’t handle one, don’t have MORE. People think being a parent is about keeping a roof over their head, and keeping them fed. Children are humans who need to be guided in life. You take a look at those Nick Cannon threads, and brehs act like money turns you into an upstanding member of society, and gives you values and morals.

Again, respectfully, I am tired of that shyt.

I can get off some metaphors too :skip: it’s like going up to a rabid dog and getting bit and keep blaming the dog. Is the dog a rabid animal who’s ultimately to blame for the attack? Yes. But shyt eventually you gotta say aight I can’t change the dog let me figure a way to navigate this.

Slavery, civil rights, racism etc are not eternal passes. But a lot of black folk operate like it is. Institutional racism is NEVER being fixed, so YOU figure out how to deal with the hand you been dealt

Bull…SHYT

My grandfather was retired military, and my grandma worked in a factory. My mom was born in 1958, in Georgia, and they came up to Jersey after she was born. They lived a lower middle class lifestyle, and so did we. The neighborhood turned bad after the 91 riots, and didn’t recover until gentrification.

I’m our family, you were taught manners, responsibility, and to make something of ourselves. When I had my car repo’d when I was 26, my mom didn’t blame the system. She blamed me for going on vacation instead of paying my car note. Somewhere along the way, a lot of black people listened a little too hard to the wrong people, and didn’t even attempt to succeed in life. We view doing the wrong thing on purpose as typical blackness. Events don’t start on time, we show up late anywhere, that’s just being black. Then when we get a consequence for being late for work, or school, it’s the system, and they’re being racist.

We run up our credit buying clothes, going out to eat, and material things, then blame the system when we can’t get a mortgage.

We have multiple children out of wedlock, with multiple people, then blame the system for tearing our families away.

We are not babies who need the government to hold our hands, and tell us how to act.

We’ll show up for protests, but not to city council meetings. We’ll show up for protests, but won’t form community networking events. We’ll show up for protests, but won’t demand rappers to stop making music about drugs, sex, and violence. Even non violent artists are putting profanity in everything, and talking about sex. Black parents will make sure the kid has fresh sneakers, and braids, but not getting tutors for SAT scores.

Is it the same state?
The marshalls was involved. The marshalls work for the US government, they like the sheriff of whatever county you in, but they can come get you once you cross states line to do a crime. The white boy went across state lines to kill people with a gun that he got in Illinois or Wisconsin but he's from Illinois. Reverse the the whole situation and tell me not everyone would have got a charge. Because it don't matter if he got the gun in Wisconsin or Illinois, HE CROSS STATE LINE AND KILLED PEOPLE. I know 3 occasion where someone did the same thing with Wisconsin and Indiana and got fed time with everyone else involved.

I’ve been saying this for years. Brehs don’t want to change anything.

If your name isn’t getting callbacks, use your first and middle initials. My friend did that, and got a $75K job, and he’s now up to $120K. Look at Asians. They don’t all work for Asian companies. But look how fast they’ll change their names.

I remember years ago I’d see brehs showing up to job interviews with baggy trousers, and puffer coats.

:what:

You cannot expect to be different, and change the standard. Stop thinking of it as a white standard. Don’t get tattoos you can’t cover easily. Don’t speed. Don’t make illegal turns. Don’t purposely break the law, then cry racism when you get pulled over. They want to pull us over anyway. Don’t give them a legit reason, and be polite when they speak to you. The ticket is not worth the little time you save making the illegal move.

Don’t get me started on the lack of conjunctions.

AAVE is just a dialect man.

Slang ain’t really what AAVE is about.
