There needs to be safety sensors installed on the ride so that it does not take off unless and until all seats are in the locked position.

Even if the employee pressed start, there should have been a fail safe- safety measure in place.

Ain’t never been sensors on a regular seat belt on any ride. Usually those over the shoulder restraints are electronic and they press a button for them to come down and they lock into place with what I assume is hydraulics. But then you’re supposed manually check that they are locked into position and to clip the safety belt to attach to the bottom just in case that system fails to keep it held down.

Im just going by my memories for these rides I actually went on.
I went in a ride like this at 6 flags and has the same harness

I always think about folks in situations like this. You know your love one is in a place or situation where a terrible accident just happened. So in the Immediate aftermath you’re holding out hope while everybody figures out what happened and that your person will walk out like everyone else is doing, so you can breath a sigh of relief but they never walk out and the realization it was your loved one hits you like a ton of bricks
