I don't get why people act like there's a ton of movies on slavery....there's not.
The movie was well executed and portrayed a real era in this country, that it seemed Hollywood had been content to ignore. Before Django, I believe Amistad is the only movie that really showed it in my lifetime. How many holocaust movies did we have?
And this movie touched on an issue that I don't think was really well known by most Americans: the kidnapping of freeman.
I swear, some folks have a persistent inferiority complex which makes them find slight in everything. This movie showed white folks as straight devils (including their proper ladies) and folks are still complaining
