Those drives can function as cold storage for current games I believe. You need the SSD's speed to play the game for current generation games but last generation and older games are playable from a USB drive.

correct externals can house PS5 games u don't wanna play.

however, u could simply delete the game and redownload it to your library. I found it kinda slow transferring large games from the external hard drive to the PS5 SSD.
