honestly i think lopez vs kambosos might actually be THE leading fight of the year candidate right now...rewatched that shyt last night before i went to sleep...a real war of attrition :whew: :wow: :damn: :picard::whoo::banderas:

Rewatched it too and don't think it's FOTY. The many middle rounds where Teo was getting outboxed didn't have enough 2 way action to merit that FOTY designation. And neither did Fury v Wilder 3 while we're at it. Still believe that Estrada v Chocolatito 2 is the leading candidate as it featured excellent two way action at the highest skill level and great defense in a phone booth war.

I think what put it over the top was you can feel the attrition in Lopez lambosos...i didnt feel that in Estrada vs Chocolatito 2 as much as an excellent fight it was plus the upset

Got hit with COVID early in the week, still recovering a bit so I didn't stay up but watched the whole thing without knowing the result

:wow:

Kambosos showed out, granted, Teo looked a bit sluggish compared to how he fought Loma but Kambosos was with the shyts, he stood in the pocket almost the whole night and countered the shyt outta Teo, a big, hard-hitting, twitchy 135er. I thought that he wouldn't be just a pushover cause he was a top 10 guy already but didn't think this would be in him.

The whole fight was one of the best in the year, behind Fury vs Wilder in drama but ahead of it in terms of pure action imo, these dudes stood in the pocket the whole night throwing fast haymakers at each other all night, it was like watching two guys run of a minefield. It's rare that we see battles like this where they just throw the kitchen sink at each other from a distance where they are close enough to throw any kind of power punches but not so close to fight in a clinch/phone booth and they have space to twist the punches

Great for Aussie boxing too, obviously, Kambosos talks like a champ should so far with saying he wants Haney next, if Haney gets through Diaz, will be interesting to see how it shapes out.

Ogawa vs Fuzile was entertaining too, Ogawa showed some poise there and Fuzile is a talented guy but isn't capable of fully taking advantage of the shell defense, he made mistakes that cost him. Ogawa hit him 3 times with the narrow straight right, Fuzile never adjusted

I spoke to Lou Dibella, and he was annoyed at the people trying to push Haney onto them. Made it clear they don't have to fight Haney, Devin needs Kambosos more than Kambosos needs him. They're gonna take the rest of the year off and reconvene next year.

Sounds like Kambosos will be sold the highest bidder, should be interesting to see how that plays out

I didn't get that sense tho. Although George started strong, Teo won some early rounds before George started pulling away in the middle. Then Teo got the 9th & the10th round knockdown and George closed strong. When I think of a traditional war of attrition I think of Margarito v Cotto 1 where a fighter is gradually being broken down and fatigued. George and Teo seemed in good shape to handle the full distance and their fight had some ebb and flow to it in terms of momentum.

However is Estrada v Chocolatito 2 there was way more ebb and flow to their combat from round to round and I remember feeling that chill of suspense in the air while watching it live in Dallas as you didn't know who was gonna pull this out with all the momentum changes.

Def feel Lopez v Kambosos is a guaranteed lock for Upset of the Year. But FOTY may be a bridge too far in retrospect.

What "pushing"? Lmao

I get it as a promoter he's :whoa: now on the Haney fight and bet he'd rather go for Ryan Garcia or Tank but Kambosos himself told the media before the fight that if he'd win he'd like the Haney fight, said it in the ring post-fight too, never seemed like anybody is trying to shove it down his throat

It's being shoved down his throat in the sense that alot of ppl feel it's the natural next fight for George. And with that assumed stance comes a position of power potentially for Haney at the negotiating table. So Lou doing the right thing by downplaying it cuz the reality is this is a business and they're not gonna take less money to fight a Haney when they could get alot more facing someone else. As a fan? I want the Haney unification. As a objective fan of the sport, I get that Team George should sell their next fight to the highest bidder.

I genuinely don't think it's the biggest payday for George. He could make alot more $$$ against Tank, Loma, Garcia, hell even a Teo rematch on ESPN may get him a bigger check. Haney has always been a high risk low reward option.

Bob paying for fights? he wouldn't even put up for teo and devin but he will for another kambosos when he didn't believe in the first :skip:. Hearn will put up for the fight, he has too cause devin on show by show contract he was willing to put up 4-5m for teo he will same for kambosos they'll get it done.
