Bottom line if dude wanted to win he could have taken less

he took less

NBA contract rules, the maximum value of a potential two-year Lakers contract for Kobe was ~$67.9 million ($32.8 million in 2014-15 and $35.1 million in 2015-16).

He ended up leaving ~$19.4 million on the table in order to stay a Laker.

Kobe gave up nearly $20 million. :wow: @ $35 milly. That woulda been crazy if Kobe was making that much 2016.

:wow:

But in all seriousness, Jerry Buss was the one that signed off on paying Kobe $30m this season. Now I don't know that he could've have forseen the prohibitive cap structure in place now but the rule that Kobe's next contract could be even larger was still there. So I don't see how it wasn't built into Mitch and Jim's future plans.

I'm pretty sure the Lakers know Kobe's market value. That wasn't on the table though. They offered, he accepted. No negotiation.

I seriously doubt that anyone at Kobe's recent production level would've taken a 50% paycut. That's crazy. 25-30% is still a significant amount.

:blessed: how great is our gawd

you nikkas really expected Kobe to give up more than $20 million to help the team win? I personally wouldn't have done it but Kobe is a better man. I woulda demanded that $35 milly :wow:

Just question if you're Kobe and already made over 200 millions dollars in career, still have endorsements, would you take a paycut let's say 25/2 2 years to give your team a better chance to acquire talent the sixth ring, or just get richer and create a more of a burden for your team to get some help?
