I see it. They needed him to be the straightman to his brothers' fukkery, since Roman needed to be above it all, or completely off the show.

Now he doesn't need that. But the irony is, he probably coulda pulled off the same kinda role Jacob is doing now for the OG bloodline and had it more in his wheelhouse as a performer. But if he had, it would have made him look even more second-rate in retrospect once Jacob got there.

This current version fits well. My wonder is, where does it go from here once the NeoBlood and the OG stop butting heads? How is he interacting with someone who doesn't have inbuilt story drama with his family from the OG run, or isn't needing to interact with the crew he has and may not always keep.

Will be interesting to see.

TBH I'd love for Roman to do his sunset ride-off, and we get The Fatus as a squad. Jey, Jimmy, Jacob and Solo(god this name is terrible when he's been in squads since his call-up)
