Los Ingobernables de Sala de Cine
Another good TakeOver show. First match did a good job of solidifying Lars Sullivan's monster status. This big mofo can just hit five clotheslines, a powerslam and a powerbomb every match and I'm because sometimes you just need a guy who does nothing more than that.
Said it yesterday but Black/Dream was a perfect feud. Easily to understand motivations, strong contrast of characters and a great build where both looked strong heading into the match. The match itself delivered with good storytelling and some great wrestling all around and both competitors came out looking even stronger. Patrick Clark's full embrace of the character has done wonders for him.
The women's match was good, mostly due to the fast pace. I thought it was weird to see Nikki Cross barely being a part of it though, she barely had any offense outside of some generic strikes and took most of the hits. You could tell the crowd was ready for Royce to take the belt and honestly I agree they made a mistake putting it on Ember Moon. She's a good worker no doubt but this seemed like making up for the fact she got injured during Asuka's reign around the time it seemed they were going to push her, and then she never got her chance again because they went all in on Asuka's reign. Under appreciated aspect about Kairi Sane btw, her selling. Every bit of offense she took, she sold the hell out of it. Very underrated skill in wrestling.
McIntire vs Almas was good even though McIntire is just too boring for me to care about him at all. I'll admit that Almas has come a long way since his first steps in NXT when he was flopping hard, pairing him with Zelina Vega did wonders for him.
War Games was really just a fukkery spot fest and I guess it worked for that purpose as the match itself was garbage on most levels. Besides the awful camera work the one thing that stood out were the refs (Orange Drake Younger in particular) blatantly directing traffic. You have a match with nine people in it and somehow you still manage to have so many dead moments that you can blatantly see the ref telling everyone what everyone's status is and what the next spot is supposed to be. Just fukking horrid direction. The match also showed exactly how forgettable and useless a lot of these ROH guys are, once the other teams entered the match Kyle O'Reilly, Bobby Fish and Roderick Strong were instantly reduced to non-players. In fact, if it weren't for the fact that they're obviously set on pushing Adam Cole, he would've been a complete waste as well. For what little it was worth, AOP and Sanity carried the match on their backs completely.
