There's about 15-20 of those movies I'd take off and replace. American Beauty, Remembering the Titans, Das Boot, The Searchers, A Streetcar Named Desire, Ben-Hur, that foreign flick, Gandhi. The Untouchables, The Grapes of Wraith, All Quiet on the Western Front, Cool Hand Luke, Chariots of Fire, Gangs of New York, Waterfront, A River Runs through It....I think Apollo 13 is on there...that can go too. I don't like Unforgiven as much as others.
They loved Redford, and loved Paul Newman...and Costner
Lethal Weapon definitely needs to be on there.

I'm white and I wouldn't watch half of these movies. all those old "classic" movies Ben Our etc, I can't watch that shyt, I don't get into 99% of westerns so there's a bunch of movies gone off the list too. What's their obsession with Kevin Costner baseball movies? The list is cacish AF
I have 100 % seen 21/100 of these and started to but stopped watching an additional 20 or so

We (the coli) should make our own list of 100 definitive movies you need to watch. I always thought that would be a good guide and put people up on movies to watch. Have one on books too. If people are interested.

Love Mendes’ work but go ahead and take American Beauty off that list.
Don’t see any Mendes film making it on here. Revolutionary Road takes a dive into interpersonal relationships and communication problems, but even then I still wouldn’t consider it must-watch for a man. His films have this melancholic air to them that I think majority of folks wouldn’t check for on first glance.
I see a few justified films here but the list feels like it was curated by white film students who got caught up into the whole “Yeah, that’s kino” debate like they usually do.

See, I watch anything and everything, and I've only not seen 5 of those movies - The Endless Summer, The Bicycle Thief, Mar Adentro, The Best Years of Our Lives, Bridge on the River Kwai. And I've seen The African Queen, but I don't remember much.
A few of them, I've only watched once - and while I may not like them, I can see why others would - Eternity, Pride of Yanks, Waterfront, Mohicans, Braveheart, Field of Dreams, The Sting. I also don't like Unforgiven as much as others do.
Ben-Hur is overrated. It's pretty much the first major movie of it's scale which promoted it to greatness, that happened to carry over through the decades. It's overly long, and even moreso, boring. I don't even know why Gangs of NY is on here. It got mixed reactions when it dropped, and it mostly forgotten now. A River Runs Through It is another one that's boring. Other movies have done the "let's bond doing XYZ" better. I don't know why The Searchers is on here either. John Wayne's character isn't likeable at all, not even conflicted and compelling like they describe it...he's racist, and may play truest to his personality IRL. Chariots of Fire is another - the score carries the movie. Streetcar/Desire is ehhhhh. There's also no reason for The Untouchables to be on here. Hate Grapes of Wraith.

There is an old film that I do recommend to anybody who likes shyt like Surviving the Game with Ice T or The Hunt. Its from 1966, called The Naked Prey. That shyt is a fukking classic must see movie as a man. I watched that shyt as a jit with my dad and was really impressed.
Its basically about this guide being chased around South Africa by some disgruntled warriors because the rich cacs he led through a territory refused to pay tribute to the Africans that were there. They disrespect the tribesmen and are later captured and tortured to death with the guide being the only one given a chance to survive. These nikkas basically hunt this cac across South Africa and the guide has to constantly outwit them and the elements to survive. It has dope cinematography and its fast paced. Plus its filmed in a way where you wanna see both sides win because there's a competitive respect between both parties. Real quality film and definitely should have been on the list. Its an old movie, but its worth it. Easily better than a lot of shyt thats out now.
