I like The Last Dragon. I own both, but it's not really a good movie...it's entertaining, at times, ridiculous at others. Half the cast don't even know what type of movie they're in, and playing it too straight. The other half is perfect and plays into the camp and cartoony vibe of it. It's definitely not must see.
OK, Give a list of 20 Must See Black Movies for Men. I assume you're not gonna have anything from the 70's and back on there. They didn't put any crime dramas or comedies on the list.
AND most of those "old movies" listed are great. I watched everything growing up, and to this day. Hell, TCM has always been one of my favorite channels. Movies like Maltese Falcon, Rebel Without a Cause, the Bond flicks, To Kill a Mockingbird, the Hitchcock stuff are all greats. !2 Angry Men - classic. Spartacus...even though Gladiator is basically the same movie, is another great one. Some of the War flicks can be redundant and become stale, so those I understand. But most of those Westerns are that work. You want to see ACTING, Poitier in In the Heat of the Night. SHEESH...and I still think Silverado should be on this list.
I'm black...from one of the grimiest HOODs. North Philly. Not from no parts with white boys either. But good movies are transcendent.
Hell, a lot of the movies y'all consider black movies were written by white dudes, and have white directors...or the source material is white, but the cast is black. You sound like one of those people that never notices the names in the back. You ever saw or heard of A Soldier's Story? A excellent murder mystery film that takes place on an army base amongst black soldiers. 95% of the speaking cast was black. Young Denzel is in it. But it had a white director...same dude that did In the Heat of the Night. Now is it a black film? It's brought to the screen by through the lense of a white guy. Ted Demme did Life. Coming to America - John Landis with white SNL writers on the script. The Color Purple, Ray...
Even TV, Lovecraft Country was the hyped black series...I bought the book long before I knew about the series being developed because it was in my book suggestions - author was a white guy. Bul looked MAGA white.
Anyway...this thread is about the 100 Must See Movies for Men. So once again, what are your suggestions? I can probably give about 50 black movies, fitting their criteria.
