Petty must really be garbage
Wasn't there rumours/reports they weren't happy with his progress throughout the season?

He didn't look close to nfl ready in pre season.
Nah, but like @NYC Rebel said, he's a complete project and was nowhere near ready when we drafted him. I still remember that image of Powell having to push him back under center during that one preseason game.

How long of a leash do you guys think mac has?

Idzik got 2 years.

This year is going to be interesting.
I think Idzik's leash was cut especially short because he exposed himself as not being a "football guy" and more of a bean counter. That plus, Woody loved Rex and Idzik did him no favors. So much so that it almost looked like sabotage. He rode the coattails of being in Seattle when they first started to get good. He was wrongly attributed as being one of those calling shots. He wasn't.

Hard to speculate anything. Maccagnan did about 50 interviews today and said effectively nothing of substance.

Which is one of the things I love about this regime. They don't give the media shyt.

Which makes it almost weird to think how macc who's usually reserved and doesn't show anything made it clear he loved hack for a while, only qb he brought in for a private workout then drafts him in the 2nd round.

He sees something. Let's hope he doesn't have tunnel vision and isn't blinded by the prototype look

Bill o brien might have talked him up something fierce
I like that. Good organizations don't tip their hands or showboat until they've won or done something of note. Even they have to know that last season was an aberration and they still have a lot of work to do.
As for Hackenburg, once again, I'm hoping that Mac is as smart as they say he is and he sees something in Hack that'll pan out once they work the kinks out.

Idzik couldn't handle the media. I thought his approach overral was fine and actually preferable to spending each year without a thought of who we have to pay in the future. I don't know about you guys but losing the teams best player because we can't afford him kind of sucks.

He also screwed the pooch in not drafting Teddy or Carr.

What is a gm really gonna say? You can't be 100% truthful but I think he's much more open and honest then Izdik or Tannenbaum before him. Those guys literally give nothing

With Francesa he admitted he tried to trade up for Tunsil and that the Cowboys called them and wanted to move into the first round and take Lynch

Also said he goes almost strictly bpa and never need etc for a gm I think he's more open then most

He's certainly better at handling the media than Idzik was. He's got a fairly calm/friendly personality. But then again it's still early and the Jets haven't had much controversy recently and are coming off a 10 win season.

He can say he always takes bpa and never need, but we drafted for need the first 3 rounds and if hack was really their bpa at that point :francis:

Agreed, but we did have to spend a lot of that money though. Isn't our cap clearing up somewhat after next season?
Also for a guy who says he wants to build through the draft macc seems to like trading away picks:jbhmm:
Yeah, but I can forgive it because he's picking up known quantities at this point. Marshall, Clady, Fitzpatrick.

Not sure but I don't buy that his careers automatically tied to the 51st pick in the draft.
Ehhh who knows. If he takes another QB next year and follows his philosophy then who knows. If he puts all his baskets in hack and hack flops?

This fan base has no patience. And right or wrong,if they see fitz (ha) at the helm for a 10 win season then us not bring him back and we get worse fans will turn. I mean they'll ignore the schedule and other reasons

Which is why, as much as it pains me to say, majority of Jets fans are stupid.

If you go with Hackenberg, Geno or Petty you're guaranteeing yourself a worse season. Fitzpatrick was the best QB play we've gotten in a decade(outside of Favre before his arm fell off). He's old though. Like I said earlier we scrrwed up not taking Teddy or Carr....it would have been nice if we had the ammunition for Goff. But oh well. Eventually Maccagnan's going to have to hitch his wagon to a quarterback.

But, Trip, hear me out. We have to be bad. We have to stink at some point. Stink with the intention of getting better, obviously, but we have to stink. We need to find out what we have in these young QB's, we have to give them time to develop. Fitz is a problem because he leaves us in purgatory. Good enough to eek out some W's, but will eventually shyt the bed when you need him most and that leaves us drafting between 16 and 20, it takes reps from players who could really use them and it leaves us mediocre. I'd rather have a losing season or two while our QB learns and develops/we get into position to draft the next Manning/Luck/Winston than have 10 win/6 losses and 3 interceptions on back to back to back plays. Simple foresight, man.
As for having to hitch his wagon to a QB, not so sure he'll have to just yet. As long as this defense keeps doing what it does, and we rebuild that line/continue to acquire more weapons for whoever we'll have under center, we'll all be good.

Then we shouldnt have been putting up Idzik billboards, fired Rex and let him hire his own guy. Im fully aware the Jets need a QB who's better than Fitz. But with the current makeup of the team, with a ton of high priced FA's, an old offense, Fitzpatrick gives the team the best chance to win and it's not even close. That being said, I'n not exactly thrilled with what Maccagnan's done to date. Trading picks for high priced vets is always a strategy to eventual hell.

We're done it three times in his two years here. Marshall restructured his contract, Fitz is pretty much gone, we gotta see what's up with Clady. Not like he gave away 1st and 2nd's either.
