He's literally one of the worse if not the worse deep passer in the league. Even his short accuracy is per as measured by advanced statistics.

short passing he's not the worst. even then, still the best season we had from a QB since Chad 02. Which goes to show how awful the Jets QB's have been. Jets also didnt have any deep ball guys.

Im all for Mccown at a cheaper cost btw.

Fitz routinely missed Marshall, Thompkins (the Pats' game where he got open deep like 5 times), Owusu and Devin.

Marshall's catch rate was fine. Thompkins's issue is he's slow and cant get open(as was Kerleys). Smith barely played.

No, Fitz routinely missed Marshall far more than other QBs would have missed him deep. Thompkins was routinely wide open in the Patriots' game and Fitz simply lacked the accuracy or arm strength to take advantage, missing several times concurrently. Devin was open all the time too. I could go on but these are the reasons every publication ranks Fitz as bottom in deep passing.

Marshalls catch rate was good in context with targets so you're wrong there. As was Deckers. He actually overthrew Thompkins in the Patriots game...and he's slow so he's rarely open.

Devin dropped every deep ball that hit him in the hands.

Fitz's accuracy on deep balls wasn't good; Marshall just bailed him out. Otherwise Fitz just missed Marshall completely. Decker didn't run very many deep routes and Thompkins was open deep plenty of times regardless of whether you think he is "slow". Fitz missed on his deep balls more than virtually any QB in the league. That's why he is ranked last or near last.

Asking Marshall or Decker to go deep isnt their strengths. Both also had huge years. Thompkins couldnt get open with the Pats or Raiders, so not sure why you're blaming Fitzpatrick there considering the top two guys both had big years (its more likely Thompson just sucks). Every time Smith got open he dropped the ball. A WR has two jobs- get open and catch it, that's it.

The point is that when Fitz was asked to complete deep balls to open or partly open receivers, he failed. All of Marshall, Thompkins, Owusu and Devin were open thoughout the year and Fitz either missed them or was inaccurate. Thompkins was open against the Raiders' for gains as Geno showed. Fitz rarely hits Thompkins because Fitz sucks. Altogether this is why he is ranked bottom when it comes to deep accuracy.

You realize Tom Brady couldnt complete passes to Thompkins right?

Thompkins has improved since he was in New England. He was a rookie there and now he's a 3rd year receiver. He now has better route running and hands, both of which Geno put to work in the Raiders' game. Fitz is the problem.

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports the Jets have offered free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick a $7 annual salary but are willing to go up to $9 million a year.

Fitzpatrick is asking for $16 million a year. The two sides are miles apart and both seem willing to wait it out. Cole reports there is "little or no faith within the organization" that Geno Smith is capable of taking over the starting job, which means the Jets will have to look elsewhere if Fitzpatrick doesn't agree to their terms. One replacement option Cole mentioned was Mike Glennon, who is entering the last year of his deal with Tampa Bay.

It's a Bleacher Report article which carries very little reliability.

The Jets brass may very well have little faith in Geno, but this is coming from Jason Cole who's not exactly known for his accurate reporting. So I'm gonna take that with a grain of salt
