Yeah I don't know how someone could be hating who worked for two black news papers (was the lead editor at one) was the lead editor and helped launched urban ones black Americaweb website. Plus was on the forefront to get the Chicago defender to start going digital yet they fought him on it and now look at them now.

Yeah, he has ties to all these organizations and is invested in their success. Don’t get the hating angle.

Above the fray.
I like the idea of a black media collective.

I think one of the things that can be improved on by these old guard organizations, from observing the Chicago Defender and Ebony, is adopting multi-generational boards. That way, they can capture the voices of younger generational board members who have insight on broader technical trends that may not be at first seen by the older generational members. This would cut down on any “dear in the headlight moments” when a swift technological innovation springs up that challenges the industry. The Chicago Defender and Ebony had only seasoned veterans in their decision making circles, and, as we can see, that can pose a problem with respect to innovation since older veterans may be reluctant to change.

As you've pointed out in other threads, even old guard conservative Black families increasingly have members who work in media now. News and entertainment media have expanded the past 30 years. Stable and lucrative career and business opportunities exist now that are alternatives to the careers that they were steered to/groomed for in the past.

The late LOG was a successful attorney, but that Hollywood book option money hits different.

One article that "toes the line" and they will be called the c00n paper within the week :francis:

The language people use and the manner that they interact with other Black people strongly reflects who they were raised by. And who they weren't raised by
Lot of dudes weren't raised by men, or by an extended family unit. No family continuity or connection to past generation. Because the connection is not there, they have no problem rejecting or throwing away older institutions. In fact, on some level by doing so I think they are striking back at their elders who they feel abandoned or neglected them.

. One of the publishers in the clip mentioned that her father told her that there was nothing new under the sun. Either pops, uncle, coach, minister, or teacher was gonna teach/show you how to address and work out problems.
We had "Letters to the Editor" and call in segments to question, challenge, or air out the writers/hosts who we thought got out of pocket.
Folding arms and calling reporters slurs online is an emotional feminine response to a problem.

On the subject of old line black businesses re-imagining themselves.

Good to see it. The ladies in the OP video said it, and I'm certain Ms. Rogers notes the importance of legacy brands. It was overshadowed by what her husband did, but the late Mrs. Johnson was a pioneer and mogul in her own right, from Fashion Fair.
Wish her success.

I'll give them a shot but the second they start that "vote for democrats", "protect all black lives","vax to protect big mama" and other shyt I'm out. Simply being Black aint good enough any more.

:comeon:

"Initially, they received funding from the Walton Family Foundation to report and publish stories about the COVID-19 pandemic and education.

The project grew to create the website, Word In Black, to curate stories from the 10 newspapers about those issues as well as stories about racial equity, K-12 education, police reform, healthcare disparities, social justice, politics, opinion, sports and LGBTQ."

When shyt doesn't work for you, you let it go. You have some kind of social sunken costs theory thing going on.

Well there you have it, the Walton family was like...yo these some real studious negros let's kick this shyt into overdrive.

"In addition to LMA and the Walton Family Foundation, the Facebook Journalism Project, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, Google News Initiative and the Local Media Consortium have also funded the project to the tune of about $750,000 combined. Charles said overall, the project has raised nearly $1 million."

A bunch of entities whose major properties censor Black radical voices. Ok this is a new c00n rag.

Let's break down their about us page:

They are funded by:

w5v0xAt.png

Now let's see who runs it:

Word In Black is led by national journalist Nick Charles, with support from Maya Pottiger, a data journalist, reporters and editors at ten of the leading Black-owned media properties in the U.S., and a team of subject-matter experts from Local Media Foundation (LMF). LMF is a 501 (c)(3) organization focused on helping local media companies reinvent business models for news. LMF serves as the manager and fiscal sponsor of Word In Black.

This paper is as Black as Rachel Dolezal. All the power lies with the White people...if they get offended they can cut the whole thing off. So this will be another site pushing liberal nonsense. The White people can feel good saying they fund Black voices and the Black people can feel good getting pats on the head from White daddy.

Damn man, didn't even let the thread breathe a day :wow:

I'll do a wait and see approach, not that I get my news from any one source anyway.

That is kind of an extreme generalization, although I can see the "striking back at their nonexistent elders" could hold some weight.

Won't change the fact that they would have an uphill battle considering they are they "Old Guard" whose readership grew up newspapers.

My (our?) gen reads everything online from the more popular news outlets so I wonder how they plan to market themselves.

Let's look at this article word for word.

Did they challenge him on why TF is his "reparation strategy" providing benefits to immigrants? NOOOOO! They gave him a soft ball follow up question:

So they let this dude come on their platform, say he is giving reparations, talks all this crap about investing in Black businesses, consulting the Black community, etc but the actual ACTIONS they have taken are putting money in the hands of the buffer classes they are lifting above us. It's rising tide lifts all boats being called reparations.

nikka...you should be ashamed of yourself. You nikkas are starting to disgust me...change you name from bnew to bmoreaware:hhh:
more and more i'm starting to think a lot of these outlets are bolstered by white liberal money hence their soft stances on clearly Ados issues.
