Teofimo Lopez believes himself to be the undisputed lightweight champion, which he isn’t, but it’s a fun thing he believes, and surely could market that if a Lopez-Davis fight were to get made. I mean, they did it for Loma-Lopez, why not? Nobody really cares.
Anyway, Lopez (16-0, 12 KO) is definitely the biggest potential option, as it would be a terrific matchup and a great fight to make. But there are problems, and we’re going to repeat this here.
Davis is with PBC and more specifically the Mayweather Promotions wing of PBC. Floyd Mayweather and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum are not exactly great friends, and as much as that, it’s a question of whether or not Lopez-Davis would be big enough for Showtime or FOX, with PBC, and ESPN, with Top Rank, to come together for a pay-per-view co-production. Not impossible, but it’s a lot to hurdle on the business side, which sucks, because this is a great fight right now.
