99% of the population is dirt poor, where they gonna go?

I'd imagine they had at least a week to prep themselves... you can walk extremely far in a week..
unless it was just their time to die... you don't know Gods plans dude.

magnitude 7.2 earthquake which left a lot of structures damaged and vulnerable. Even before people could do the necessary repairs to their homes and buildings typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) reared her ugly head and sent down what could only be described as a deluge bearing with her strong winds that were powerful enough to uproot not only trees but whole buildings.Yolanda (Haiyan) is one of the most powerful typhoons to ever hit land. And after seeing the aftermath of her path of destruction, one could say that it’s also the deadliest disaster to have assailed this poor nation. Leyte, Samar, and the Nothern part of Cebu were badly hit. The lethal combination of earthquake and typhoon was more than enough to wipe whole cities clean.

As I am writing this article about the aftermath of the storm and seeing the pictures of the devastation especially in the hardest hit areas, I can’t help but be emotional and cry. The Philippines is not alien to typhoons and other calamities. Our location puts us right smack in the middle of the path of these catastrophes yet, after Yolanda (Haiyan) hit the country it seemed like there was no end to the crisis that the ordinary Filipinos are facing.

The death toll for this tragedy is rising. For those people who did survive the storm, another problem looms over the horizon. They are left homeless and penniless, everything they owned are gone. Some families lost more than their material possessions with their loved ones dying or are already dead due to the typhoon. Many of these people are now left exposed to the elements as they try to pick up the pieces of what is left to them and start anew. Fear of cases of diarrhoea and other medical conditions rising is another concern many people are thinking of.

We believe that it is now time to act and extend a helping hand to the victims of this heart-breaking tragedy. So much is needed to be done to help them get back even a semblance of the life that they once knew. We are now appealing to everyone to please join us in helping the victims of this typhoon. Any help that they can get will go a long way.

Donations are greatly appreciated and every penny will be used to bring food and potable drinking water to as many people as we can reach.PATAS-Cebu is now preparing for an outreach program for the victims of Yolanda (Haiyan). The target area of our program will be Hilotongon Island of Cebu.

Out here in my damn drawls
I always had the theory that atheists who participate in Buddhism are somewhat fraudulent because they still lean on a belief system to give them guidance. :manny:

It tends to be less dogmatic than other religions and a lot of people who practice is more lean towards it's philosophical principles.
Are you buddhist too? :lupe:

Nope, just a regular ol' nonbeliever. I do deep meditation and focus on the 4 stages of mindfulness and all that jazz, but I wouldn't call myself a Buddhist in the slightest sense.

I always donate to Red Cross when these things happen. I won't miss the money, but I see Red Cross workers in the middle of disaster zones and they definitely need the support.
