This thread is actually good news because of the numbers.
You are way more likely to not end up with the materialistic 20%.
There are more good ones than bad ones.

If you think it's only 20% then I have a bridge to sell you, she'll love that more than any ring.:mjpls:
I still believe there a lot are women out there that are grounded and focus on the important things.
The ones that are materialistic spoiled princesses that secretly throw temper tantrums because the ring is too small can be spotted in the first few conversations.

The guys here WANT to believe everything is doom and gloom.

People and their fairy tales.

Putting too much stock in the proposal, the wedding and the ring and completely forgetting about the actual marriage.

I blame Disney movies.

The "Don Jon" movie could've been better but, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was absolutely right when he said romantic comedies warp women's minds the way porn does with men.

I kind of want to address this. It seems like men lament over the fact that women want idealized romantic relationships, but to me it's not the same as women lamenting over their male counterparts who are sex addicts. Help me understand. Aside from the ridiculous minority of women who want gigantic fist sized diamonds and and for the heavens to open up for god to send a dove to sit on her shoulder and hand her a ribbon that says "He's the one" during the proposal, what's so bad about idealized romance? For all the guys out there, which is worse? Porn changing the expectations of sex and relationships? Or romantic movies changing the way women feel about sex and relationships?

romantic movies also change expectations. porn changes more the expectations of sex. movies change the relationship expectations more. one could argue that the latter will have a greater effect on your life in the longterm and make you more miserable (although we shouldn't underestimate porn)

:camby:and 9 out of 10 married men are disappointed in their wives weight gain after marriage. But i bet the bytch was crying and said yes, in the back of her devilish mind she thinks "Imma wait til we already married and get in a big fight, if my usual criticism doesnt emasculate him enough, i'll tell him all about the disappointment and resentment i held in over him going to Zales when he should have went to Jared!"

Elaborate proposals or even diamond engagement rings are not traditional, their built on marketing schemes. Women are taking this whole put on a pedestal princess thing too far. It's only been 200 years, keep pushing it and it's back to women being a burden and fathers having to pay to marry you off again.

Actually this is how it is suppodes to be.
The best marriages are when the man loves the woman more than himself and the woman loves the man more than herself.
Whenever you are in your own number 1 spot divorce is almost inevitable.

LOL. Spoken like a naive plebeian.
