More detailed thoughts:
NEVER gauntlet was whatever, pre-show fluff, but seeing Goto come to the ring and wrestle in a hoodie for a bit was
. Dude isn't even underlooked anymore, he's intentionally ignored. He's not popular enough for WWE to go after him, but likely too big for any other company in Japan to be able to give him a good offer.
Will Ospreay vs Kota Ibushi expected more high flying fukkery, but instead they went more into the "let's try to knock each other out" and then Ospreay actually did it.
Both the boma ye and elbow strike were fukking disgusting. Ospreay definitely has bulked up and should probably be promoted to heavyweight this year.
LIJ vs Roppongi 3K vs Suzuki-gun Another whatever multi team tag match at WK? I'm stunned.
Zack Sabre Jr. vs Tomohiro Ishii Surprised that this didn't hit the mark after greatness they produced last year. Idk what it was, but it felt off and sloppy or something.
GOD vs Young Bucks vs LIJ Another whatever multi man tag match at WK? I'm stunned.
Juice Robinson vs Cody Good to see Juice get a very decisive win, but this was easily the worst match of the card, an absolute bore and the fukkery with Brandi fell completely flat. Leave it to Gedo to get a guy hot, then kill his momentum and spend the next year getting him back to the starting point. Again.
Taiji Ishimori vs KUSHIDA Ishimori doesn't really do much for me in general, and Kushida's been in the exact same position for what feels like 10 years now. If WWE makes him the offer, I think he should take it, because a good run in NXT where he's not a junior could change his outlook in NJ.
Jay White vs Kazuchika Okada Jay White is such a non entity and his rocket push is genuinely baffling. After a year he STILL comes off as a bootleg Kenny replacement, he doesn't have the technical c*ntiness that makes ZSJ stand out, the charisma and likability that makes Juice stand out, the athleticism and high flying that makes Ospreay stand out, or even the following in the US that the Bucks/Cody have. He's, maybe literally, the most boring white dude they have and he's the one pre-ordained for some reason.
Tetsuya Naito vs Chris Jericho Jericho's heat segment went on for too long, and I don't think the segment itself was the problem but Jericho taking time to rest made it feel so long. Naito is back to where he was 2 years ago, still in a holding pattern below where he should be, but the English commentary was making it out like he's now made it to the top level by beating 50 year old Jericho for the secondary title that he's held multiple times and doesn't give a shyt about. I think Jericho has run his course in NJ for me, I don't really have much desire to see him trying to keep up with Okada's 30 step sequences, but I'd prefer him to get a match with Tanahashi over Jay White.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Kenny Omega This is unquestionably better than all of the Okada/Omega matches, and better than the last 2 Tanahashi/Okada matches. I'd go so far to say this is Kenny's best match ever, and his disrespectful dikkhead act is so much better than the happy go lucky change the world babyface bullshyt he was doing since winning the title. The only thing I can say as a negative about the match is I wish Kenny had done more classic signature moves after he did the shining elbow. Like if he had peppered in Chono/Hashimoto moves just to be a dikk head
If Kenny/Okada was 6 stars, this was 7, and with Dave in the building it should be a 12.
Happy to see The Elite wrap things up, as they've either ran their course (Bucks), or never fit to begin with (Cody). What Kenny does this month should be interesting. I don't think WWE is a good fit for him at all, and just the idea that signing for promotion his buddies started up using the name HE came up with doesn't seem to be a real option is
to me. I don't think he has much to gain from going to WWE besides the money, although he also doesn't have much left to do in NJ, but AEW is probably going to run the schedule he likes (working 3 times a month).
