Since it seems like AEW and Turner have a pretty decent relationship, I wouldn't be surprised if they were completely aware that this is how they were going to promote this show, and signed off on it. It feels like they're kind've trying to have it both ways by having so many references to something happening tonight (that random line from that QT Marshal promo for example) that it's obvious for people that are watching and telling other people to watch, but since it was never directly stated, they can run "you never know what'll happen" type promos for people that don't watch regularly.
Either way, they managed to create a pretty decent buzz for a show when their largest contemporary in the same business is about to kick off a three day weekend surrounding their second biggest show of the year. I'd consider that something to be alright with.

Why do you think TNT were so mad that they kept the Sting appearence a secret?
Because they're the ones airing the show. One thing to keep the fans in the dark, different story to keep the network airing your show in the dark.
