at Fenix flying in out of nowhere with a full on Mortal Kombat kick.
Don't know why they didn't put MJeff in the ladder match over just a regular singles match. MJeff feels like he should be going up after beating Cody & him winning that ladder match would have been more important than a match with Jungle Boy & got him right back into stuff after the rona had him missing for a while.
I love things like JR saying Brodie is like getting hit with a truck & Excalibur coming though to say a big rig because there is 0 chance JR even knows he threw one right down the middle of the plate.
It wouldn't shock me if they had set that up for one another either.
One of the best things about watching AEW is the chemistry that the three commentators have with one another. It was rough going for a bit at the beginning, but once JR and Excalibur became comfortable with one another and they added Schiavone, it REALLY took off. They each have a role, but they aren't necessarily the classically defined announcing roles (play-by-play, color commentator, heel announcer, etc.). Rather, you have JR mostly driving the ship, Excalibur as secondary play-by-play/WCW Mike Tenay role (since he easily knows the most about these wrestlers's backgrounds, having booked and called their matches for years in PWG), and Schiavone as both the returning old school guy and the avatar for newbie fans (since he's learning a lot about the wrestlers on the job). Despite those roles, they never feel like they're too locked into those spots, so you'll have times where Excalibur might take more of the lead, Schiavone can take the lead if needed, etc. (also, Schiavone's excellent to have around because he garners so much sympathy when heels like Britt Baker get one over on him, or when the Best Friends include him in their bits. You see, the lapsed fans watching AEW love seeing him have fun with wrestling again, so heels impeding that makes the fans dislike the heel for his sake. Great stuff). It just has this free-flowing, loose feel that extends to the other commentators (see Tazz's appearances on commentary, or even when Vickie Guerrero did Dark and seemed the happiest we've seen her in years) and makes it a whole lot of fun to watch.
Do we have a gif of that Fenix kick yet? My god that was hilarious.
