I'm still trying to figure out the kayfabe logic of Dustin getting a shot to be interim champ when he was not even ranked in the top 5 at the close of the year by AEW:

Rankings don’t matter for TNT championship matches. Think of it like how NJPW works, when someone has a title shot and gets injured, they choose someone from the same crew to have the title shot.

It also builds to the future unification match between Sammy and Cody.
