exactly what it is, this is the same thing that EVERY president has done.....

and yes, they reward their ppl with these positions......

Agreed, but its still unprecedented for there not to be any replacements for most off them, one or two is undertansdable not all off them, its a fallacy to think otherwise..

44 - Obama Gives Political Ambassadors Their Pink Slips

Obama Gives Political Ambassadors Their Pink Slips
By Glenn Kessler
The incoming Obama administration has notified all politically-appointed ambassadors that they must vacate their posts as of Jan. 20, the day President-elect Barack Obama takes the oath of office, a State Department official said.

The clean slate will open up prime opportunities for the president-elect to reward political supporters with posts in London, Paris, Tokyo and the like. The notice to diplomatic posts was issued this week.

Political ambassadors sometimes are permitted to stay on briefly during a new administration, but the sweeping nature of the directive suggests that Obama has little interest in retaining any of Bush's ambassadorial appointees.

Most ambassadors, of course, are foreign service officers, but often the posts involving the most important bilateral relations (such as with Great Britain, Japan and India) or desirable locales (such as the Bahamas) are given to close friends and well-heeled contributors of the president.

how many positions where left empty?
how long and why?

it certainly was not because he fired all 45 ambassadors and that is the crux of the matter.

ALL of our ambassadors have been relieved of duty.
they aren't really left empty there are deputies holding those positions until filled..

First lets stop these cops from killing our people first
This ties into that quite well. Starting from the mid-50s to late 70s, do you think the US was "progressing" with Civil Rights due to White guilt here alone? While the Black Civil Rights leadership as well as the Leftist groups provided pressure from the inside, it was international pressure, especially from the Soviet Union, that caused powerful lawmakers to act.
The same is true of police brutality investigations, while the protests and civil disobedience (as well as the small-scale riots) put pressure on state and the federal governments to investigate, it was also the UN and NATO who were adding pressure from the outside.

Lol there were already replacements in the wings. There was also a grace period for the outgoing ambasssadors, you'd know if you'd read the article by the independent. PS what's the difference between 2 months and 1 month?

unprecedented?

again, the posts aren't completely empty. There are ppl in place holding those spots until the Ambassador is appointed.

here's more info about these highly "important" positions some of you are so outraged with.
