The only plot line that mattered was what was ended. It wasn’t more than that.

Same goes for the judge methodically persuading the jury to side with him as the case proceeded. Yeah, he got the decision he wanted, but there were no detailed instances which progressively got to jury "eating out of his hands" like he guaranteed Baxter.
The judge's son? Seeing scary Black people gave him an asthma attack.
