I hadn't read the whole thread. To answer your question though, Tariq is green, not necessarily stupid. At least when he does dirt, he tries to cover his tracks. Tariq left the city & tried to stay low after he killed Ghost.
I'm not saying rhat Tariq is a criminal genius, but I think in a better writer's (Courtney is the worst) hands he'd seem a lot smarter.

no way in real life do potential witnesses get hauled into court without first getting medical attention - Letting him testify with a broken ankle would give the impression that the prosecution is forcing him to testify under duress in exchange for his statements. And the fact that he had no atty present in the Judge’s chambers Should be suspicious. That implies undue influence.
plot line was ridiculous.( I’m going to assume covid affected the filming/writing and they had to rush this or had no time to run past legal consultants)
