I like Deep Impact, the human reactions seemed real compared to the other ones where everybody pulls together and is full of positivity about defeating the planetary threat.

There's a film called 'Melancholia' from a few years ago that comes to mind although its far from your traditional disaster film, its more philosophical and character driven.
I aint even gonna front for a minute, that movie kinda scared me.

No Whammies!!
Is "Stephen King's The Stand" TV miniseries from the 90's considered a "disaster movie"? I haven't seen that in years, but I might pick the first episode of that.

War of the Worlds. Slept on because it came out around the same time Tom Cruise was acting Scientology crazy. But, the most "real" feeling disaster movie. Everything about it felt like how the real thing would go down. It wasn't focused on anyone "special" either, just an average joe who happens to be close when it all goes down.
