How is Bella Hadid, Kendall Jenner considered supermodels? It’s only because of nepotism and their social media following, that they’re allowed on the catwalk.
You have unfunny pigs like Amy Schumer and Lena Dunham who they tried to push as funny/sex symbols and the backlash was horrific. So much so, they had to hide/change the ratings system on one of Amy’s Netflix special.
There’s a backlash to this politically correct culture that they’ve tried to push, where mediocrity should be accepted and criticism shouldn’t be allowed so we don’t hurt feelings. fukk that. Call a spade a spade.
I’m not saying Issa isn’t talented but no nikka would look at her twice in the street. She gives average women hope so that’s why they prop her up as one. Same with white women and Jennifer Anniston.

The problem is the more attractive you are as BW the more they put you on the shelf and downplay your looks to make white gurls pop.
Then they take you off the shelf when you are much older and grew out of the teenage market.
There are barely any young black guy heartthrobs to swoon over for young black guys girls either, any semi decent looking one is paired with a non black girl these days. And black sitcoms and shows that would showcase a lot of young attractive black female talent are non existent, you get a lot of mixed girls though so

That's my issue with black media and black audience, most people are average. Most white female celebs are average, they still get celebrated for other attributes, from the girl next door, etc...
There is room in black beauty for more than the super hot/popular girl look. The black teenage market need to expand to include other black girls who aren't mixed race nor vixen types. and you say this but there was much more variety in the 90s.
What there should be is variety not just one type. The beauty standard in black media is so restrictive, there is so much more variety among white girl personalities.

It's like watching Wrestling now when you grew up watching Attitude Era, it's laughable.
She has her own charm, and its nice to see another type of black girl than the standard, sexually explicit or asexual type with no romantic interests.

You don't need to like her, I like what she brings to the table and others do too. That's the beauty of diversity we definitely need more young black teenage heartthrobs of all types.
But what you are complaining about, isn't because of the fact Issa Rae exist, its because young black beauties are suppressed in the entertainment industry. Most young teenage black girls are predominantly mixed girls and its been like this on overdrive in the last decade since black produced shows are scarce.
