Its a contract year for everyone. Other than Nash, every other Lakers player is a free agent. If there is one thing we know about NBA players, they care about their money. Usually when you have so many mediocre players on a team and they are playing for contracts, the season can go one of two ways. (1) They can all try to hog the ball to get their numbers and not give a fukk about team success. Or (2) you can have a 2005 Seattle Supersonics type of year in which all these mediocre players can mesh and put up career seasons in unison leading the same roster that finished 12th in the West in 2004 to become the 3rd seed in 2005.

I see this Lakers team in that 2005 Seattle mold. All those young bench players are gonna power us to a season that is much better than people except. Gasol is gonna play outta his mind cause its a contract year for him. I expect them to stay in that 6-8 spot in the West till Kobe comes back. And then when the gawd comes back in a month or so, we should take our rightful place among the contenders out West.

Even with a healthy Kobe and all these dudes playing for contracts, we are still one piece away from being a legit title contender. Hopefully Mitch can work his magic and find that missing piece.

kobe has missed the entire season. so have many of the guys we thought would be contributors. you had NBDL guys like Kendall Marshall playing for us. of course we weren't gonna be as good as I thought.

however we did start 13-13 without Kobe and if he would've played the entire season and we didn't get so many injuries, we would've been in the playoff race out West.

IN The END thOugh, I'm glad I was so wrong. Being 8th and getting swept outta the first round wouldn't have helped us rebuild for a title. Now we can finish with one of the worst records, get a top 3 pick in a loaded draft, get a franchise changing young player, get a max free agent, and a healthly Kobe and we'll be back.
