Are you refilling it from the reservoir or did you take off the radiator cap and refill it from that opening?

Did you burp it? This is when you run the car so that radiator cap valve opens and allows the coolant from the reservoir will flow into the radiator.
Did your car ever overheat recently? You might need to replace the thermostat.

Your car could overheat and cause more damage, so yes, it is a bit dangerous.

The price depends on your car as well as the rate your repairman charges. Try www.tirerack.com to price your radiator, thermostat & water pump.

What kind of car do you have?
You can look up the price of a radiator and thermostat on www.rockauto.com You can go to a local NAPA store too.
If your temp gauge is in the red, that's not good. You can do more damage to your engine while driving it hot. The motor oil will lose its viscosity (except for full-synthetic oil) and you'll ruin the internal parts in your engine block, particularly the piston rings.

how much is it to get a new water pump? and thermostat?
Replacing the radiator and thermostat are relatively easy. But, replacing the water pump may be difficult depending on the car you have. The timing belt usually drives the water pump, so you'll need to remove that when replacing the water pump.

drive a 1999 mercedes ML320

thanks, and it wasnt in the red portion its basically hovering over the halfway point and the longer I drive it kind of rises little by little but not dramatically...so the car isnt drivable at all? should I get it towed?

It's driveable. But, when it starts to overheat, your oil is toast. The longer you drive it in overheat mode, the more damage you are going to do to the engine. Rebuilding an engine is an arm and a leg.

Where is the radiator fluid leaking? Is it wet around the radiator cap, below the radiator?
I've replaced a radiator in two different cars. It's very easy. Nothing super mechanical like a timing belt change where you can really screw up the running of the car.
There are two hoses. One goes into the top of the radiator and there's another one exiting from the bottom. You just have to is drain the radiator, undo the hose fittings, pull off the hoses, unclip the radiator fan connector, unscrew the nuts/bolts that are holding the radiator, remove the radiator. Reverse is the installation process.

If you can drive it to a service place before it gets into the red, you don't need it towed. You could top it off and try to make the drive.
