In retrospect:

I actually thought Ambrose would be the heel when SHIELD broke up. I wanted to smack the shyt out of him every time he grinned after an unfair beatdown or doing something nefarious.

The original plan was supposed to be reigns vs Ambrose at wrestlemania but then they signed Batista and extended the shield another 3 months for shield vs evolution feud and then they changed it

Now that you mention it, I remember after Reigns/Rollins lost the Tag titles, there was a small time frame where Ambrose was being overly cocky about being the only member of the group that was a champion and Roman was always giving him the side eye every time he brought it up.
