thoughts from being at the game:

the offensive line is looking good now? the right side of Teven & Darnell is amazing, moving bodies in the run game and solid pass pro. I thought they gave Bagent time to make throws

Sweat made a difference. Panthers line sucks but Sweats speed and attack was noticed and great to see pop a bit

Bagent missed a lot of throws down field. Justin would have lit up the scoreboard today

Kyler Gordon was flashing. Dude makes plays. I like him more than Brisker now.

our running game is coming together. Foreman runs HARD, Roschon is solid and Herbert coming back. Letā€™s keep running the ball and it should open the field up for Justin to make some plays.

I still hate watching us run the same zone shell every damn play. Good QBs will continue to eat it up. It works against inexperienced/bad qb play though

Bryce Young looked ā€¦ bad. Being at the game I could really see how much his size hinders him. If you put any heat on him, he canā€™t see the field

I know so many are saying take Caleb Williams with the first pick, but if we were able to get all of that for what ended up being Bryce Young, and Caleb is considered a much better prospect than ALL of the QBs taken last year, can you imagine the type of haul we could get for THAT pick?

Iā€™m already seeing white people on social media saying they donā€™t want Caleb because heā€™s ā€œa divaā€ and that we should draft Drake Maye (another white QB from UNC) or Michael Pennix (a super senior coming off an ACL injury).

Its a VERY exciting situation to be in - I was just chatting with someone about this.

so for Bryce, we got this

moved from #1 to #9 (Darnell Wright + a 4th due to moving back one slot)
DJ MOORE
a 2nd in '23 draft
a 1st in '24 draft
a 2nd in '25 draft

so for Caleb - who is much more highly valued, imagine getting a haul like this

moving from #1 to somewhere in the #2-6 range
an established, impact player
'24 2nd
'25 1st
'25 2nd
maybe another 4th thrown in

Poles got a fukking HAUL for Bryce pick once you lay it all out - even if we got basically the same package, but instead of moving back to 9, we move back to lets say 4-6 range, its a HUGE opportunity to build out the rest of this roster

----

I just come back to my theory that Poles has already decided to reset the QB clock with a hand picked rookie. I am totally in the camp with yall on using this as a chance to obtain more picks and really build this team out the right way. All the signs point to Poles being in a situation where it makes sense for him, in his position to get his "handpicked" QB - and it also buys him more time with a fresh rookie QB deal - it just adds to his job security TBH.

I think my position here gets construed as me being a Justin 'hater' - and Im seeing people last night acting like I ever said Bagent was some type of answer? Thats disappointing to see because Ive never said that and its not my point of view. My POV here is looking at it from Poles perspective and I feel like he already made up his mind on the QB situation. I feel like Ive been pretty balanced and consistent in my Justin evaluation, I need to see him stop holding the ball, make throws to open receivers and just generally speed up his "QB Clock" - these feel like very fair and obvious takes IMO. And if Im seeing these things, you can sure as hell bet Poles is too - and is he willing to ride his one chance as a GM on Fields figuring that one? When he has the chance to take a supposed "generational" QB in Caleb at the top of the draft due to some trade magic he made happen last draft? I just dont think he will.

Hopefully Justin can take these next 7 games and show Poles that he can be a winning QB - the BEST CASE SCENARIO for this team was always Justin showing enough to move forward as QB1 and us using these picks to build the trenches and build the roster.

Yeah I feel you. It seems like people are more excited about using the top pick to draft a QB. The Chicago and national media definitely seems to be in that boat as well. I get Poles may want his own handpicked QB, but it just makes more sense to me to keep Fields, even if his ceiling is a top 15 QB. For the flaws he has shown, he has also shown unique ability that maybe 2-3 QBs have besides him. Just from a team building standpoint though, if your entire team is good, you can win without having a top 5 QB. You laid out the haul you could possibly get for a Caleb Williams, but what could we get for Fields right now? Maybe a 3rd round pick? What if Fields goes to a competent team and looks great, and we get Williams and he struggles because our team hasnā€™t fixed all its flaws? Back to square oneā€¦

Getsy is also mostly terrible. I would love to see a OC build a system around him like Lamar but probs wont get the chance to see this here. Hopefully he goes brazy second half

I am tending to lean to this as well. I think from a team building perspective its optimal that Justin plays well and stays on and we build the team with all the draft capitl that is possible with these picks

Poles entire career hinges on this though, and these guys tend to want "their" guy. And he cant assume he'll have a top pick again with a supposed "generational" QB available again. I just feel like all signs point to Poles going that direction, if for nothing else, the sake of HIS career

Its going to be interesting to watch play out

Justin does have 7 more games to show himself - and the line is improved right now and the running game is starting to hum, he might come back and the offense takes off in a big way to close the year. That would be fantastic.

I think this is/was the issue for Caleb. Bears couldnt even put together an offense/support for Fields

Whether fair or not, a lot of people thought/expected he'd be where Jalen Hurts is today.

Bears can draft Caleb, but you gotta move on from Flus/Getsy. I'd say that even if you keep Fields.

Lol hurts has a all star team around him. He makes plenty of mistakes too but it matters a lot less
